  1. Awesome pics and encounter. They are so cool to see in the wild. Lots of bobcats around. Yesterday, a friend and his nephew called in 2 at once….while another buddy in a different county had one creeping through his backyard right around the same time.
  2. Very cool catch, Mike. The state has been working hard on gathering fisher data and glad you were able to contribute to that. My hunting partner and I have a solid population of fisher on our Central NY property and get plenty of trail cam pics of them throughout the year. We even called one in during Turkey season that wanted to eat my decoy. Other buddies not far from us have as many or more fisher than we do….and there is a robust Turkey population in that area. Im sure the state has a population estimate for fishers but are working towards a more current data driven estimate with the study they’re doing. I don’t think you’ll see a fisher or bobcat season anytime soon in NJ despite the recent work the state did estimating bobcat population and current work on fishers. Political winds within the department just don't favor a move in that direction. As far as turkeys go, I am sure the current turkey study will give us more data on what is going on with them. I have my theories…but let’s just say that fishers, while seemingly good turkey predators, aren’t at the top of the list as a major cause of population decline here in NJ. This is based solely on anecdotal evidence but my beliefs none the less.
  3. I have several does on cam in NJ and upstate central NY who look like they’re still carrying.
  4. I have an extremely hard time believing that vessel strikes are the cause here. General cargo and container vessel traffic has been at an all time high the last 2 years and we didn’t see this many dead whales washing up. Starting late last year into this year, there has been a drastic reduction in the above traffic. How has there been a major reduction in vessel traffic yet such a visible increase in whale/dolphin mortality? That press release also stinks to high heaven. You don’t have to be a PHD to see that it was carefully crafted to point away from the wind industry. I honestly think that many of these so called vessel strikes occur after these things are toast and floating belly up. Something tells me these things aren’t easily picked up on radar depending on conditions. Very peculiar situation for sure.
  5. I know 1 was checked in around 377#. Outside of that haven’t heard much else.
  6. I think Dave Owens also has another video like this as well.
  7. Fishers, coyotes and foxes all living amongst each other…even with constant harassment from the neighbors coyotes hounds in upstate Ny.
  8. That diagram/process wouldn’t have worked today. For some reason they plowed in the opposite direction. Oh well.
  9. Sitka is great stuff but runs on the small side. Not the greatest option for a big guy when layering. You have to try it out to see if it works for you. first light gear is less expensive but more to size or even a tad large. That said, some of their lighter/medium weight whitetail stuff doesn’t have a wind barrier. As for stuff being available in stores off the rack, good luck with that. The stores do get the larger sizes in but they’re usually long gone this far into the season. And they get far fewer of these than they do of hobbit sized garments. Online has been the way to go…often requiring returns if things are sized appropriately. best of luck.
  10. So after finding funding and going through the permitting/ bidding process, it would still take a further 3 years just to reach a point where the we could begin destruction of the actual dam itself? wow...

    Snow totals ?

    Underperformed in Bedminster.
  12. Great info guys. If we went the cellular route, the hard and expensive part would be stringing enough cams together to get to the portion of the property that actually gets service. How far apart can you place the cams where they are still connecting with one another and sharing photos in a heavily wooded area?
  13. Does anyone on here use the cuddelink system on their property? Is the system worth it? Pros/cons? Is there a comparable non-cell cam network from another manufacturer that’s better? We are looking to install something like this on property upstate NY that receives little cell service across the most of the property. Our hope is to limit intrusion into sensitive areas while keeping tabs on the local herd. Any info/advice is appreciated.
  14. This isn’t the first time it has happened. It started on the other side over by penwell a couple years ago. They shut it down there and the crowd moved over to the point mountain road side. That was shut down as well. From there, the group has been hopping around to any public waterway leaving a mess of garbage in their wake. They have also been damming up the rivers and creeks to make swimming holes. this year has seen it worse than any year prior as people are seeking out any public body of water available to get away from quarantine. I’ve never seen so many people using the public land here in NJ as I’ve seen this year. Places where you’d normally see a few people have been mobbed. Hopefully when this dies down, things will return to normal.
  15. I agree that mowing and consistent annual frost seeding of the plot would take care of the minimal amount of grass seeen in his plot. Clover should shade that stuff out quickly after a a haircut. However, if he wants a chemical solution, crop oil or a surfactant (dish soap is a surfactant) added to the mix should help him get what he’s looking for if he hadn’t used it initially. I believe most clethodim products suggest using those in order to get better herbicide contact with the plant. Clover might get a little burnt but will bounce back quickly as long as you’re not doing this in the heat of the summer. This is the time to do it as grasses are growing and we have sufficient moisture/cool temps.
