  4. Well on Saturday 7/11 I had Jeff and Tulay out for a day of bluefin hunting .. Game plan was to run way south out of SRI to find some life..I got down to were I wanted to find some life to only find a lifeless ocean .. Radio chatter was not encouraging at all .. Startied running to some tight structure and pulled up on a few over bluefin finning themselves .. No love at all, then the flat line clip pops and bam we are on.. Only problem was a jumbo Mahi instead of a bluefin but it's a ice breaker.. Started working the area again have 2 clips pop but nothing came tight.. Picked up and made a huge move about 71 miles and found the mother load of fish... Put the spread out and a sterling bar gets hammered hard ..this fish burned across the spread cutting off 2 bars and a Shute .. So after 2hrs of fighting this fish we see color and that color was huge!! As I was hand lining the leader up we have a giant on! Fish sound again another 45 Min I get the fish 10ft down and it comes in down .. Heartbroken for sure .. We quickly found that school again and I reset the spread fast .. . Bam were tight 25 mins boat a 52" fish .. We made a few more shoots and boat 3 more overs ... We spent 4 hrs chasing schools of fish that wouldn't eat .. Having fish from schoolies to Giants under the boat was incredible .. To find schools of fish from 100lbs to some fish easily over 300lbs is something I will never for get.. I went back through the the area Tuesday and it was a ghost town .. One thing I'm noticing is the lack of mammals, bait and overall life on the ocean.. Enjoy the pic heavy post, thanks to sterling tackle once again .. I'll be ordering tomorrow! Joe Sykk Physh View the full article

  6. We decided to take a look a week early then last year ... Well broke SRI around 5am and was greet to what seemed like flat seas, but 5 miles out it was a nightmare 3-5s on a huge SE swell with confused seas . But slowed down and grinder out to the grounds .. Pulled up on. 5 scallop boats with tremendous bird life .. No marks or life on the machine , but decided to put the spread out and sea what happens.. About after hr of working the area the Green Sterling splash bars gets hammered and is screaming off.. Awesome were tight on a bluefin, but had a bad feeling as we were turning away from a guy Sharking that trouble was near... Few minutes later huge explosion about 50 yards behind the boat. Mr Mako shredded our tuna quickly.. I so want to feed the tuna back , but didn't wanna do that to the boat Sharking .. Put the spread back out and back to business.. The fleet only had 3 fish, we had no sea life or bait marks at all .. So I decide to push away a few miles . I found great bait makes and marks 40ft done .. pow the purple sterling bar get pounded .. Nice bluefin decked, made a quic turn pow other sterling purple get crushed .. Release another bluefin. Back on the pull we watch to bars get crushed one comes tight purple again... However this fish ain't stopping ... After 10 minutes and into the 100lb jb in goes deep fast .. We fought it hard then nothing .. Pulling the purple bar is shredded .. mr Mako found us a again.. So I can say I need to order a few new Sterling bars this week and a few extra stingers ..heading in at 400pm .hit weather nothing serious. Thanks Capt Joe View the full article

Today's crew had a great morning with Mike Rob and Dave all dropping a few but redeeming a few with multiple fish boat side . We kept the charters 3 fish limit . And I gotta admit I enjoy this 1 over 43" fish less to fillet .. Hope you enjoy the pics Capt Joe View the full article

  14. Drove from PA to NJ yesterday to grab Adam as soon as he got home from school, and from there, we ran to meet my friend, Craig Gorczyca, and his son, Tyler, for a trip in the Raritan Bay for stripers aboard the "Sykk Physh" with Capt. Joe Gahrmann. It had been far too long, since Joe and I last fished together; so I was eagerly looking forward to getting out on his boat with him. We scheduled a late evening "happy hour" trip ... and, happy hours they were. After a quick scan, we found the marks we were looking for, and the kids commenced to catching stripers one after another as fast as we could get baits in the water. At times, we had 3 stripers hooked-up at once. The fish started out as small rats at first, but as the tide ran harder, the bass kept getting bigger. By the end of the trip, the kids had worn-out arms from fighting fish after fish, and they also had worn-out cheek muscles from all the smiles and laughter. We probably landed 25 bass up to 25 pounds, and we had plenty of other "log arm releases" and misses. Craig and I let Adam and Tyler handle the majority of the fish, but we each landed a couple as well when the kids were taking breaks. We kept 10 from 29 to 32 inches to divide among us while releasing all of the others, including most of the fattest roe-laden females. For those of you who have been thinking about getting a youngster out saltwater fishing, these trips are perfect. They aren't too long and overly exhausting for kids, and as a bonus, the trips are in the back of the bay right now where the waters are more protected and sheltered. These fish are beautiful, hard-fighting and relatively easy to catch ... especially with the aid of someone who is on the water daily like Capt Joe as he knew exactly where to look for these fish and how to move with them throughout the tide cycle to insure we were on fish more than we weren't. Can't wait to hopefully get the chance to do it again real soon as it was a blast watching the boys crush striper after striper. - Gr8ful View the full article
