  1. I had to bow out of going to that last minute, yesterday morning I tore the long head bicep tendon in my left arm, same arm I just had the distal bicep tendon repaired in December. Hurt like hell. Can't seem to catch a break. 2 of my brothers went though, said it was a great event, and from what they saw, the heyday for NJ big bucks is long since over, was the 1980's and 1990's. I agree.
  2. Some more pics from today
  3. 2000 Toyota 4 Runner Limited 4wd for sale. has 201,500 miles on it. Gloucester/Salem County area. I've been using it as an every day vehicle since November with the intention of taking it to Maine to leave it there for a hunting camp vehicle, but our plans changed. Body is in great shape, interior is in pretty good shape too and has almost new tires on it, has a new rear cargo mat, everything works (4 WD, sunroof, radio, power windows, doors, seats, etc.) and new shocks for the rear hatch. It just went through NJ inspection in January and has a sticker good until 2026, but it has a few mechanical issues. It has a power steering fluid leak, looks like a leaky PS line to me but I didn't get that far into it. Also, on Tuesday, it developed a stutter and the check engine light came on. The thing has been running smooth for me but it's got a misfire now, could be something as simple as a plug or wire, or coil pack. Again, I haven't checked into it because our intention is not to keep it, and it just happened Tuesday. I only drove it once since then, and then I took it off the road and put my truck back on the road yesterday because I need to start hauling things anyway. Had the oil changed about 1000 miles ago and the shop also checked the brakes and said they are not new, but good for a while yet. If you are interested, PM me and I can direct you to the shop where I had my service done, and he looked over the brakes and such. You can talk to him yourself, if interested. If you are mechanically inclined, this would be a good buy. If you want something that doesn't need some attention now and then, this isn't for you, it's 24 years old and has over 200k miles on it, and things are going to fail eventually but it's clean, everything on it works and ran smooth until this stutter happened a few days ago. Here is the listing from when we bought it in November. Just trying to be upfront and honest as possible because I know buying, and selling, used cars can be a bit of a mine field. Price now is $3500.00, because of the misfire problem.
  4. I have no doubt that you know what a big deer is, but in my experience, most of the 140" deer that guys see in the woods in NJ are actually 120 ish. Can't tell you how many times over the last 25 years hunting public land I would talk to people who claim to have seen several 135-140 inch deer, even showed me a few pics, that when killed later, scored 115 to 120. The fact is, probably 90+ percent of the 130 inch deer people say they have seen, or have cam pics of, are not really that close to 130, more like 115. People see a 120 and think it's a 140 all the time. I showed several veteran hunters a summer trail cam pic of a 3.5 yr old 8 point that all said went between 135 and 145, and after I killed the buck it taped 123. The NJ guys who hunt the Midwest and know what a big buck looks like are better at it, but most NJ hunters can't accurately score a buck on the hoof.
  5. I think this one counts
  6. Maybe not. I ordered a 2022 ^^ in February of 2022 with some pretty good options: Supercrew cab, 6' bed, 36 gallon tank, FX4 package, towing package, running boards, all weather mats, on board generator, 5.0 V8, bed liner and box link system, plus I added a 10 yr, 60K extended warranty all for $49,500. I added the cap afterwards and put the shocks on the tailgate for like $18.00. My brother bought a 2023 last year with almost the same options, minus the warranty, bigger tank and FX4 for $46,500, but he used X plan pricing. That's still an ugly amount of money for a pickup truck, but it's my last one, so...
  7. I'm not saying you are wrong, or your opinion on deer management doesn't count. I'm just saying if you are tired of seeing it, then just don't click on it, and it goes away for you. There is no need for the mods to prevent the discussion just because you don't want to participate in it. If you don't want to be part of it, don't open it.
  8. It's a NJ outdoors forum, with deer hunting being the primary focus, and the poll and discussion about deer hunting in NJ. Hunters will always have different opinions about things, always have, always will, so I don't really understand your problem with this. If you are really tired of seeing it, you know you can just not click on it, right? You have the power to not see it, the mods don't have to take it away for you. Just don't click on it. Why is that so hard for people to understand?
  9. You asked for an example of a survey, I gave you one, so you try to discredit it because it didn't support your point. I get it, but the result of nearly every, if not every, such survey they've done in the last 30 years or so has been very similar. If there is one to the contrary, I'm not aware of it. You're right, we don't see this the same, and your Union example is a good illustration of why. In Union negotiations, it's all about getting the most for the members, no matter how much it hurts management or the business. You cannot approach wildlife management like that because you should be managing for the good of the resource and habitat, not being only concerned about hunters taking as much as they can and never giving back. Sometimes, when over-hunting, disease, habitat loss or destruction demands it, hunters have to adjust and maybe not take as much of the resource. I realize Union members would never want to give anything back, to their own detriment sometimes, but hunters and wildlife managers should never approach the management of natural resources that way. There are countless examples of States across the country where regulations have become more conservative or strict when needed and the hunting got better for everyone.
  10. Come on man, you know this. It's been basically every study the Division has done on the topic that shows hunters are in favor of APR's and/or fewer buck tags. Here is a sample of one they did. The highlighted portion gets to the heart of this discussion. https://www.nj.gov/dep/fgw/news/2011/apr_survey.htm It's kind of what Jack is saying, not you, so maybe you aren't really speaking for the majority. Can you show me a study where it shows NJ hunters want to add a 7th buck tag, or shoot more smaller bucks and have less of a chance at a bigger one? Probably not, but that is where the proposed game code changes take us.
  11. You make a few good points, but also a lot of faulty assumptions. First and foremost, the statement "hunters don't shoot enough does, period" is not true. It is certainly true in some areas, but I can promise you it's not true on just about any of the public lands in my area of South Jersey. I sometimes go up to Hunterdon and Warren county to hike and fish and let me tell you, our deer numbers are nothing like that area. I fish some sections of the Raritan River that flow through public land, and will see more deer in one day up there than an entire season of hunting some of the WMA's in SW NJ, and that's just the truth of the matter. Up there, I can see your point, but that's not the case on public lands here. Hunters shoot plenty of does and bucks around here, probably more than they should, which does take opportunity from other hunters who want a better experience. You talk about wanting hunters to be able to enjoy the way they hunt, not take anything away from them, yet right in front of you are plenty of hunters saying they are not enjoying hunting here, and your free-for-all attitude is taking what they enjoy from them. You claim to speak for the majority with this free-for-all attitude, yet survey after survey by the Division finds the majority of hunters here want things like APR's and fewer buck tags, so who is really speaking for the majority of hunters here? One more thing about this free-for-all, maximum opportunity, let hunters do whatever they want philosophy you have: that's not the Biologist at the Deer Project doing their job, it's the exact opposite of them doing their job. Their job is to monitor and manage the resource, not continue to expand opportunity to maximize revenue, in spite of the resource. That^^ is an ironic statement. It seems to me everything that you are arguing with JH about is because you want maximum opportunity, despite the impact on the herd, to satisfy yourself, and you've said as much. You are not speaking for the majority. Surveys consistently show the majority want things like APR's and fewer buck tags, you are speaking for yourself...your own "satisfaction". And before you accuse me of some antler obsession, I'll save you from that mistake. I've been completely through that phase on the pie chart and have come out the other side. I just wish the Division would actually manage the resource properly so that all hunters would have some decent opportunity, instead of just the private land guys. I can tell you for a fact the last thing we need on WMA's in SW Jersey is EAB, more permit shotgun days and another buck tag, yet that is exactly what they plan to do.
  12. Why would I do that? I don't care what they kill, and isn't the entire point of this thread about not worrying about how others hunt? You don't want people telling you that you can't use a crossbow in bow season, but you want to tell someone else how they hunt is "problem"? What happened to.. "hunt how you want, as long as it's legal"? What these guys are doing is exactly what the State wants, it's almost entirely on private land, and they eat the deer. I didn't post it to be judgemental, just to confirm what Hammer said seems to be accurate... and if they only had 2 buck tags, they probably would fill the freezer with does because they would have to. Right now though, a 130-140 lb 2.5 yr old buck puts a lot more meat in the freezer than a 90 lb doe.
