  1. Okay all clear. But I don’t quite get the BLM element of it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Right thanks - rifle hunting is prohibited but bow hunting groundhog is okay on state land etc. that IS correct, yes?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Hi all, If I’m out in the woods, with my bow, hunting groundhogs - in WMAs or State Parks (always public land), rangers aren’t gonna flip out on me right? I mean, so long as I have my license on me, I should be good? It’s not the most interesting thing to hunt but it seems like a great pastime while I’m scouting out areas and learning the land. Can you please advise? Ash Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Good info on Gap. Thank you. I’m in NYC, so anywhere in Jersey is good...! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Okay, so I’m looking for a spot to visit and revisit all deer season. I’m a traditional bow hunter and I’ve got to be very up close and personal to make a shot, so I promise I’m not gonna be competition with all you guys...! WHITTINGHAM I’ve eliminated Whittingham WMA after a weekend scouting out there. Want to identify and start scouting now. Looking for advice and thoughts. ALLAMUCHY I’ve hunted Allamuchy a lot with zero success. It’s beautiful and I love it but I’ve just spent so much time in the woods with no payoff, so I think that’s out. MT HOLLY AREA I’ve spent loads of time here and taken a doe and I also love this area. But I’m so familiar with the land now I want to try somewhere new. RIVER GAP Been out here a lot this summer and seen some good bucks high up on the ridges. It seems like a rough and tough spot to hunt and it seems appealing, but maybe it’s going to be similar to Allamuchy in the end? WHARTON I’ve never explored this area but for some reason it fascinates me. Maybe it’s the devil maybe it’s the sandy ground maybe it’s that there are roads I can use to actually drive to hunting spots. I don’t know. But I have also heard it’s not as good hunting as the hard wood forests of the hills in north Jersey. What are y’all thoughts? What’s a great spot to focus on and learn the land and wildlife of? Any advice really appreciated. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I’m guessing the swampy spots are good? Here scouting and hunting woodchuck for a laugh. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Hi all, So I usually hunt southern Jersey and Allamuchy, but I’ve been scouting Whittingham WMA today and had some questions. . Does anyone have any theories on why it feels like perfect bear habitat? The deeper I got, I found more and more bear scat including one pile still warm. Are there actually a tonne of Bear out there? It doesn’t seem like it should have more or less than Allamuchy or Water Gap, but it felt like there are way more. . I didn’t see a lot of deer sign - saw a few doe, all immature. Is this area hit really hard each year? Is it a bad idea to spend time here? . I went through the entire area except the swamp right in the middle. Growth is so thick I could barely get in there. I feel like the south eastern section was promising, with some good funnels and those weird fields, but again, didn’t see much sign. What areas work for folks? Any advice? Or should I just call it and perhaps start hunting the Delaware Water Gap area - just walking trails there this summer I’ve seen some big ass bucks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Sweet !! So go at it?!? That’s awesome. Gonna have to find some recipes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Hi all, I’m a Trad bow hunter and was going to head out around NJ to do some woodchuck/groundhog hunting. Does anyone know if I can hit any of the usual zones with those parameters? And I only need a hunting license right? There doesn’t seem to be many rules about this like there are with deer and turkey. Any help appreciated- struggling to find information about this online! Thanks everyone. You’ve all been helpful and generous with advice on here. Appreciate it. So I walked all over the area, a thick as hell overgrown field - 500ftx1000ft. Brutal. I scoured every square foot, and then back tracked and did it again. Took three hours total. This time i came across my arrow, and I saw a small doe moving at the same time (unrelated it turns out). The arrow was in a direct line East of where I shot the deer almost six hours prior. So I went extra extra careful now through the thick, and saw my doe all covered in vines and things - she’d run into a thicket and got caught and died there. The arrow didn’t pass through - it was a double lung shot though. Once I gutted and butchered her, I saw that the broadhead had actually gone through both sides of the rib cage but stopped just behind her skin on the exit side. I guess it was slowed down as it passed through the brush. Feel very glad I stuck with it. I really thought I was just wasting my time there for the final hour, and especially so after the dog tracking chap decided I had no chance. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I just spoke to a dog tracker. He said from the description of the shot and the behavior of the deer he’s certain I made a shoulder shot, which he says means the deer is long gone, and the arrow is probably somewhere around here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
