  1. All the permit issues or complaints aside, and not saying I agree with it, but there's a reason the system is the way it is. It's a balance of the public vs private land and number of hunters and days. And then add in that it's somewhere around 60/40 split - for private land vs public land on a harvest. I hunt 2, sometimes 3 zones here in NJ, and I do mentored hunts in 2 other zones. Early in A week and the first two E weeks are generally SUPER crowded. After that, I tend to see very very few hunters. Are the turkey numbers as good as they used to be? No. Hence why we are about to start a 3 year turkey study in the state of NJ that the NWTF is pitching in some hefty funds for. But are there still plenty of turkeys? Yes. Just have to do your homework. I see a lot of PA hunters as I'm in Warren County. Whatever, I cross the river too. I've done DIY hunts in 4 other states (Wyoming, Nebraska, PA and South Carolina). Only PA was as crazy in terms of # of hunters and pressure. But my Nebraska and Wyoming tags were not cheap... out there the turkeys are MUCH more concentrated, and can be tough to locate, but once you do find them it's a whole other ball game.
  2. Very sad to hear this. I just wrapped up a project with his son using some of his and his fathers pictures for work, his talent both in photography and writing is unmatched.
  3. For the ladies who want to learn more about waterfowl! We will spend the day at Sedge Island WMA THIS Sunday, July 24th. Includes snacks, lunch, and more. Meet at the boat dock at 8AM and will be departing the island at 4PM. Sedge Island is located off Island Beach State Park. If you have ANY questions, do not hesitate to reach out. Unless your a dude and want to wear a skirt so you can attend... Registration: https://forms.gle/eXuHwFCnaMHHxBg76
  4. The 1 goose change was because of federal. Not quite sure what area of the flyway has a shortage of geese to affect the entire flyway, but that is not a NJ regulation change.
  5. Not to interrupt to Osage Orange Conversation... Was good to be back for my 10th (would have been 11th, damn 2020) Pub 199 night! The guys roasting some chestNUTS over the fire...
  6. Thanks for the input all. We ended up going with the Dogtra Pathfinder. Had a few more features that I was looking for than the Garmin and was half the cost. I appreciate the info, and some great points about the dog not being far from us while hunting or being in water etc. With the investment made in this dog... if she takes off even just once that gps tracker will be worth it IMHO. This little one is extra in the drive and retrieve department LOL
  7. Looking at E Collars for our 9 month old pup. Shes a flusher, and she will be trained for waterfowl and upland. I'm leaning towards one with GPS, because just go big or go home to start. Any feedback or opinions are appreciated.
  8. Pequest can be tough, but there are deer there. Just have to find them. And right now there's a lot going on in the woods. PM me and I can give you some pointers for the area.
  9. 2021-2022 Archery Season Dates are out! The Book will be delayed... FYI. https://www.njfishandwildlife.com/pdf/2021/deer_regs_archery21-22.pdf
  10. Registration is open for both the Virtual ONLY and Virtual + In-Person NJ Women in the Outdoors Mentored Archery Deer Camp. Both options are open to women 18+. In-Person camp is VERY limited and only a handful of spots remain at this time. This is a great opportunity to get the women in your life into the outdoors and enjoying hunting. Don't hesitate to ask questions :). And no... if you shave and put on a skirt, you can't join guys
  11. BUMP! Tickets are still available. The Early Bird Raffle tickets deal is available online for purchase for another day. Venue is super kid friendly - pool with lifeguard, mini putt putt, playground and more. Dinner is an all you can eat BBQ/Picnic buffet. Weather looks to be beautiful and we will be under a pavilion for the dinner! Come support the Women in the Outdoors so we can continue hosting our mentored hunt events.
