  8. as shortfuse stated its all about what you are planning on using the rifle for and what weight projectiles you are planning on shooting.... However his info is incorrect for the heavier bullets....A heavier projectile is longer and thus needs a faster twist rate in order to stabilize the bullet.... Do to the thin jackets of lighter weight bullets in the 35gr - 50gr weight range you want a slower barrel twist, as to fast of a twist can cause the bullets copper jacket to disintegrate in flight.... 35gr - 50gr / 1 in 12 or 1 in 14" twist rate 55gr - 69gr / 1 in 10" twist 55gr - 77gr / 1 in 7" or 1 in 8" or 1 in 9" twist (although the 1 in 7 may be too fast of a rate for the 55gr) 77gr - 90gr / 1 in 8" or 1 in 7" (bullet weights over 77gr will be unstable out of a 1 in 8") with the 223 / 556 you have a wide range of bullet weights to choose from, which is what makes the round so versatile....From plinking groundhogs, whacking coyotes, to shooting long range..... If your looking to do some plinking or hunting groundhogs and predators at short to mid range distances, 55 grain bullets should suit the bill just fine although depending on the location of where you are hunting / shooting, a very light weight bullet may be better especially here in NJ....as the light weight bullets with the high muzzle velocity out of the 223, these rounds will basically disintegrate upon impacting anything....So less worries of your bullet passing thru or a miss/ricochet and the bullet hitting something you dont want it to For further range 300yds and further you want to run a little heavier bullet, the heavier projectile is less effected by wind drift and gives you a little more punch at longer distances for larger critters, 69 - 77 gr bullets fit the bill here For long range shooting out to 600 and further, you wanna look at the heaviest bullets, 77 - 90 grainers....As these will be less effected by wind drift, however keep in mind that you will only find match bullets in these weights and they are not suited for hunting, also since these bullets are so long they can only be single loaded, as the cartridge overall length is longer then the magazine
  9. Nice meeting you Buckshot195, good luck with the gun and I hope to get some pics of your moose !!! Mods please close thread, thanks
