Think this buck was shot?

Local farmer calls me Tuesday, says his nephew's girlfriend hit a big buck in his hayfield and wanted permission to track it through my woods. He said lots of blood. I said sure go ahead. They looked in morning, tracked it for over 400 yards and packed it in. The girl swears she hit it right behind the shoulder.   Last night this buck shows up across street from my house where I had been getting the most pics of this tank of a 7pt. My buck weighed 169 dressed, this buck will be close to 200# dressed. Anyway- I am guessing she hit this buck in front of the shoulder just above brisket in a non-lethal part of the neck.

Agree?    I sure hope this guy will be ok - probably a full pass-through.

I cringe when I read/see bad shot posts.  They happen to the best of us, but there's at least a 12"-16" difference between a shoulder shot and that shot.  Even if it was a quartering-away shot...

I'm hoping that's not the buck and what you're seeing is a birthmark or a shaving accident.

Sapere aude.

Audeamus.

When you cannot measure, your knowledge is meager and unsatisfactory.

HH that's a brand new mark... Here he is 10/14 when I posted him behind my house wearing a branch for a hat.  No mark.  Unfortunately this is Z5 / Fredon township. Probably the most heavily hunted part of the state -  this happens far too much for my liking.

I wouldn't necessarily count that as a bad shot.....It's that time of year....plenty of bucks have transitioned from sparring to fighting and that could well be a gore mark....

The deer detective in me and knowing how much hunting pressure there really is around here thinks otherwise.  I deal with this crap every single season since I moved here in 2002.  And you know how these bucks travel, although he is local to me, you might see him soon where you hunt.  Anyway sent pic to farmer - maybe he will pass it along and get back to me to confirm/deny...

Couldn't give you more than 190# dressed on that and that's my upper limit...

I will try and find a pic of him standing next to the one I shot at 169#, u might disagree :)    Just looking at these pics I would guess 160-170lbs dressed, but based on the confirmed weight of the "longhorn" this guy looks 20-30 lbs heavier.

169# + 20# = 189#. lol He'll definitely be losing weight over the next few weeks, unless his injury slows him down.

Yeah it looks like he will be fine. Hey now we know how you get these freak racks you been shooting the past 2 years. Cleaning up other people screw ups...lol

You beat me to it Buck!

C'mon Jack.... you are not instructing these hunters to place shots where you selectively tell them to?  lol
