TRENTON — Hundreds of gun advocates have packed into the New Jersey Statehouse for a hearing on a slate of two dozen new measures that aim to tighten New Jersey's gun-control laws.

The crowd is so large, all the gun supporters couldn't fit into the hearing room.

The 24 bills include reducing the size of ammunition magazines to 10 from the current 15, banning ammunition that can penetrate body armor, requiring ammunition sales to be conducted face-to-face, banning .50 caliber weapons, establishing a regulatory and reporting program for ammunition sales, and requiring gun buyers to provide proof of training in firearm safety.

The Star-Ledger's Matt Friedman is on the scene, and we will provide you with updates throughout the day via Twitter.

Bob, there is also a bill to ban every rifle-barreled shotgun in the state. A3659

Revises definition of destructive device to include certain weapons of 50 caliber or greater. Although the bill attemps to exempt shotguns, rifled-barreled shotguns are not cobvered by the exemptions.

I remember reading bills on the table about requiring psych evals for every firearm purchase, and another requiring HOME INSPECTIONS for every firearm purchase. No doubt those will get shot down, that second one is just straight up violation of privacy.

That's a great thing!
