Just letting anyone know that fishs monksville .the njdwsc is lowering it  starting yesterday going drop it between 10 and 16 feet.

Have I ever told you about stocking the Monksville when it was first built?

 

We fished for smallmouth in Yards Creek for 2 weeks and used the fish we caught to stock the Monksville.  It was a tough job, but somebody had to do it.

Not sure if it's dam repair, but the Wanaque Reservoir is down about 30' right now.  Never seen it lower in the past 20-or-so-years.  There is no substantial rainfall in the foreseeable future.

 

I am still not sure why the state hasn't declared a drought or a significant water restriction yet.

Funny thing is that DEP Commissioner Martin did declare a drought alert for portions of NJ including northwest NJ, but nobody seems to know about it.  Even with all this rain that people think has fallen, our area of the state has received almost zero rains.  Just take a look at the USGS gauge station for the South Branch Raritan River.  The yellow triangles are "average daily flows":   http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nj/nwis/uv?site_no=01396500

The SBR is hitting new lows since recording began for that river in 1918 with the Musky hitting their second lowest ever this summer behind that river's drought of record which was 1963-1967.  At least it is raining (finally) right now.  If you live south or east in NJ, you have no clue how bad we've had it for several years now!  Parts of the Flatbrook River are dry between the pools.  Think about that for a minute....
