Why fly do you use that works all year long?

If i had to pick one fly to fish year round...Thankfully I dont...I would use an olive caddis larva...size 16..

There are just too many flies and situations to just pick one..

Too many to count, but my short list would include:

wooly buggers
pheasant tail nymphs
hare's ear nymphs
egg patterns
caddis pupa
caddis emergers (La Fontaine sparkle emergers are my favorite)
black and yellow stoneflies
scuds
rainbow warriors
RS2s
BWO dries
Prince nymphs

There are many others, but those flies are in use every month of the year. Various sizes, some with beads, some with flash, etc.

Personally I've probably caught more fish on bead headed flashback (sunny) or non-flashback (cloudy) hare's ear and prince nymphs than any other nymph.
So many to choose from, but those are my top two default/generics that always seem to catch.

Last year I went fishing with Salvador Dali. He was using a dotted line. He caught every other fish.
