Alright all my fellow hunters and fishermen/women, I know it's been an issue in the past where antis have come on to pro-hunting/fishing sites and used our posted images in their own negative campaigning efforts. To help mitigate this to a degree, I have locked down guest viewing such that no uploaded or externally linked images/content can be seen.

This essentially means, any item you upload for members to view cannot be seen by guests. It also means anything you add to a post with a MyCode tag (i.e. IMG, URL, VIDEO, etc) will be hidden from a Guest's view as well.

Note, if you just post a link directly with no URL tagging it WILL appear.

So I would encourage you to utilize the URL tag whenever possible. I'll see if I can explore an automatic overwrite to replace any web URLs that are posted without those tags to help further protect any linked content.

Here is an example of using the URL tagging here on the forum that will hide the content from a user:

>[url=http://someaddress.com/somepage.html]Page Description[/url]

You can test this feature out by logging out and viewing the forum as a guest. Pick a thread that you know has pictures in it and you'll see a message that the content is not visible for guests.

>[img=The contents of this section are not visible for guests.]
You must register to see the contents.

Now, obviously antis can simply sign up and become members to gain access to the content. So this doesn't help prevent that, but something is better than nothing. I'll see what else I can do to help further prevent their usage of the content on here.

More to come...in the meantime, if you have any recommendations, or spot any issues, please let me know!

I see were you are going with this and kinda agree, but if a anti want a pic all they have to do is Google image and they will have more then they ever need.On the other hand it may turn some potential future members that like to lurk and see if the sight is were they want to spend there internet hunting time lol if that makes any sense.Either way keep up the good work I love the sight

Hunting and fishing is not a sport to me its a way of life:rock:

Yeah it really just helps protect the community here in a small way at the cost of preventing potential future members (other hunters and fishermen/women) from seeing content immediately. But they will be able to see the interaction of users and that should help motivate them to join (hopefully).

Obviously there are other ways antis can get content to use against us, but any way (big or small) I can keep them from acquiring it here, the better.

I look at it more like a small measure to protect the users here and not make their shared pictures/content (intended for this community) anonymously/publicly viewable (i.e. by a guest).

I understand your logic and Im sure some around here probably appreciate your efforts in that regard. Was just saying i personally dont care who reads or sees anything i post and dont particularly believe they ( the ANTIs ) will find anything useful to their cause around here..:acclaim:

Yes, I get that too and to a degree share the same sentiments about antis and my own content. I've just seen users argue before about giving ammo to the antis, so this at least helps a little to decrease the ease of acquiring the content. We'll see how it works out, it's easy to remove if desired in the future.

I thought it was already like this?

That's because you've never been to a F & G hearing for something that the antis are fighting against us for. Many times posts from the other site were quoted and used against us,just ask Jakesbeard. The I don't care what people see is what's killing us. It's not the Antis that we have to worry about,it's the fence sitters. You start looking like a bunch of barbaric heathens to them and it causes them to lean towards being an anti.

Tim,

Guests can view threads, but cannot post (other than in the Guest forum, where every post requires moderator approval to "show" to the members).

Previously they could see images (main thing I wanted to restrict), now they can't.

It's important to not "lock down" the forum to allow legitimate potential users to see the site and user interaction to help encourage them to register.

True, i have never been to a F&G hearing.. But, considering what you said about ANTIs useing the stuff we post in these forums against us all the time, and considering the rather liberal hunting season in this state, I will again revert to my “and don’t believe they ( the ANTIs ) will find anything useful to their cause around here “ opinion..

Thanks for helping me prove my point BTW..:cupcoffee:
