Concealed Carry Permit Course

Forgive my ignorance, someone asked me a question I said I'll try to get an answer. What good does it do to take the Concealed Carry Permit Course? How can I transfer my guns legally to states that have Concealed Carry? Used to be you couldn't transfer your handguns to NY or PA, does this still hold true? Please enlighten me :praying:

You can legally transport firearms through any state as long as you comply with the laws of that state, generally speaking.

There are states (FL, UT) that allow non-resident CCPs which you need to take a course for.  Other states may have reciprocal CCP with those states that offer non-resident CCPs, thereby expanding the amount of states you can legally carry in.

Changing residency and moving from one state to another is complicated when it comes to firearm transfer.  It's best to contact a lawyer in the state you are moving into to determine the best course of action.  In most cases it's not that difficult to do, but that's very dependent on the state/county/municipality you are moving to.

I'm the kind of person who goes to Nappen with these kinds of questions and also ask for a legal referral in the destination state.  After moving to NJ from NH I've learned not to put any kind of hope in that the system is in favor of the individual.

Sapere aude.

When you cannot measure, your knowledge is meager and unsatisfactory.

You do not need to take a course for a FL CCW permit, my dad has one and is a NJ res. Since the "boom" of ccw's a few years ago I know Pa has honored then not honored FL permits and Im not sure where they stand this week. I live in Pa and dont need a course and Im good in a lot of states, Ga and Pa are my only concerns. FL is good in SC if you own a residence there, otherwise they do require a course. Cabelas and Heritage Guild offer classes for the Ut permit which I believe is the most widely accepted among non residents. Also every state has diffrent laws, obviously, but I know Ga has an open carry law for residents, I can not open carry there since my permit is for concealed carry. Also Pa has an open carry law which does not require a permit as long as you can legally own a firearm. Id always check, check and check then have someone else check and make sure you CYA
