Cleaning bear claws

Recommended Posts

So I decided to get a half mount done on Patch.

I had Joe remove the rear claws for me because I want to do something with them, with one paw I am making/having made a necklace and will be using the claws from the other to make some necklaces for some friends.

Anyone know the best way to clean them up? I have been searching some other forums and there are various ways recommended for doing so. I currently am using one method which is soaking them in lemon juice for a few days but if anyone has any other ways to get all the rest of the gunk off of them I would appreciate any input.

What was key to getting them clean? Looks great whatever you did.

I soaked them in lemon juice for a few days and got a lot of the goop off, then soaked them in a 50/50 of alcohol and peroxide.

Used a finishing abrasive buff on the Dremel to get the few layers of "nail" off to get it smooth then hit it with the polishing attachment.

After that it was coat upon coat (at leat 6-8) of clear nail polish top coat, then drilled the holes and went to work.
