IMHO, gotta' rethink the whole top of the site.  See enclosed screen shot from a 27" monitor.  Forums barely show at the bottom.  God forbid this wasn't 2560 x 1440 and was 1024 x 768!

 

Some suggestions:  Might want to consolidate the badges at the top (the three scrolling badges that have hunting info) and consolidate them into one scrolling badge.  Take the announcements and move them up there too.  The "back online" thingy could also be rolled to the top into a scrolling "Site Information" thingy, probably best located at the very top between View New Content and the user login information (plop some Javascript thing in there to scroll text, maybe add some color so people notice important site info).

 

Dude, once your infrastructure guys start throwing shade on your UI, it's time to take a good look at revising it.  Just sayin'...

I agree.  Just having the pictures (featured content) and then the forums looks a lot better and is more user friendly.  

 

Unlike Haskell though, my opinion is not so humble.

Yeah those announcements are only temporary.

I'll remove the site migration one.

The other one you can click "Dismiss Announcements" and poof it's gone!

I can easily change the scrolling one to 1 instead of 2.
