Coywolves are Super Predators

Interesting article about the Eastern Coyote.

 

According to researchers their DNA is 65% Coyote, 25% wolf, and 10% domestic dog.

It appears that the coywolf inherited the best traits from all three lineages. The incredible adaptability of the Western coyote, coupled with the large size and strong jaw muscles of wolves, enable the coywolf to be an extremely effective deer predator. Likewise, researchers believe that the inclusion of dog DNA has enabled the coywolf to be more comfortable in urban settings than wolves or coyotes normally would. Known coywolf populations exist in several Northeastern metropolitan areas, including Boston and New York City.

I read similar articles on the topic. Most people don't realize that's why ours are so much larger than their western cousins.

if you look at a typical yote they are small when it comes to our yotes they are much taller longer snouts are longer defanatly a terror on four legs

Yea they are some big stink pups out here.orangr ones black ones I seen one a guy killed on the base it was like 80lbs

not  buying into that theory yet...  I shot a coyote in Hacklebarny SP a couple years back and im sure it was 100% coyote.. Observed a bunch more while out and about and there wasnt anything about them that would make me think they were anything other than 100% coyote.. Oh i like everyone else around here have heard of the 80 or 90 lb fanged beasts roaming the woods along side a mountain lion but, i havent seen not one trail cam pic of a coywolf.. notta one...

Problem is....you haven't seen a pure coyote.(western)

You have only seen eastern coyote...yes they look like coyote.... But bigger

One was shot not far from me in cumberland county  about 5 years ago  that was 85 or 95 lb  the picture was on the other site a guy on a white ford pick-up holding it  by back leg.

when you leave the northeast as I and others stated there is no comparison in the yotes a typical straight lace yote is a lil bigger than a large red fox shorter legs narrower face not as heavy as the northeastern dogs

Holy crap that's a big yote gobbler getter. Damn. My property is getting over run with them. I hate hearing them barking while I'm walking to my stand. Lol
