Shoutbox disabled temporarily

All,

Due to the resource usage, I have to disable Shoutbox (chat) for a little while to evaluate the hosting usage.

I'll also be looking to move to another host, so bear with me as we transition.

I'll let you know when that time comes though!

Well there goes the neighborhood!

 

You know you could make it an iframe and move the code to a different host.

I don't think it's heavily used by members, it's mostly welcome messages, certainly not enough to command the current resource usage to run it.

This new host exploration is quite an interesting escapade...learning a lot about what's out there but it's still a mass of confusion with the resellers and the EIG umbrella sites that apparently run like a snail.

I like it better without it, it really sucked on the smart phone trying to scroll past it with out scrolling threw the whole schout box

It actually remembers if you minimize the shoutbox, so whatever "state" you left in it last it will restore to when you visit the site again.

But it's definitely nice and quick and less "intrusive" without the chat on the main page.

Maybe I'll put some polls up and see what everyone thinks, I'm cool with making the site how you guys want it to be

I think the site looking's more inviting and easier to use with the featured content slide but without the shout box.

 

My vote would be to leave it how you have it tight now.

Just for the record, I didn't hate the shoutbox, but not something I was ever going to use. I also like the content slider.

 

I only access from a computer though, so I have no idea what phone people see.
