Barrel Break-in

I purchased a new DPMS LR-308 and was reading about breaking in the barrel which will improve accuracy. Does anyone break in a new barrel and what procedure do you use? I have seen several different ways and am looking for any input.

TWO BOX BARREL BREAK-IN

This barrel break-in procedure requires two boxes of ammunition to complete. Start out by shooting one round at a time, cleaning the barrel thoroughly after each round and allowing it to cool. This process should be followed for a total of ten rounds.

 

Then take the remaining thirty rounds and shoot ten three shot groups, cleaning the barrel thoroughly after each group and allowing it to cool completely before firing the next group. Once ten, three shot groups have been fired the barrel is adequately broken in. At this point the rifle can be sighted in and used.

I would call them and ask if the barrel was lapped, if it was no need to break in, IMO.

Personally, I like to clean a new barrel out very well, then JB Bore paste for about 20 swipes, clean again and go shoot. I will tell you that I have absolutely no proof that this does anything to "help", but its just my routine.

Cleaning it and allowing it to cool in between shots makes all the difference.

The biggest thing is not letting the barrel heat up take your time and let it cool.What Red posted in on the money

I agree with Reds post, only thing I'll add is that you can speed up the process and get better results if you use a solvent that can be used while the bore is hot. Shooters Choice is an excellent product for this

CLP def helps but dont use too much.

I have the Hoppe's solvent and also their copper solvent. Just waiting on a bore guide for cleaning
