Bowtech Bow review... The EXPERIENCE

BowTechExperience

Recommended Posts

I was at my local dealer last week to have my Bowtech Assassin SD draw weight checked because it just felt a little more difficult to draw. So I get there and have the weight measured. It was at 61.6 lbs according to the digital bow scale. I had it set at 58 lbs at the beginning of the season.. Oh well, the string stretched a bit, no big deal I will just lower it a tad. I shot my arrow through the chrono and it shot 298 fps. My draw length is 27" and I shoot a 300 grain completed VAP HV arrow with my bow. Since I have a short draw length this arrow combo gives me speed with great accuracy and the Assassin Sd is maximized at my draw length to give me a fast set-up for my draw length and draw weight. But there is a sticky wicked to it. The last 2" of draw on the SD is a bit stiff, especially in the cold all bundled up. Not the end of the world though..lol

Now here comes the part that really hurts the wallet. My dealer said have you seen the new Experience. I said no, I'm not looking for a new bow, besides I have a Specialist also. He said just shoot it. I said ok.. BIG MISTAKE!!!!!! He set the draw length at my 27" and adjusted the draw weight down to 59.2 lbs.........

1. The draw cycle compared to my Assassin SD is unreal... Smooth as butter. I was expecting that slight bump and transition into the wall but not to be. It was a smooth continuous draw into the wall. Nothing harsh at all.

2. The Experience chrono'ed my VAP HV 300 grain completed arrow consistently at 297 fps at 59.2 lbs and 27" draw length. The shot had no shock to it that I could feel and was very quiet even with my light arrows. There was a sight on the bow and a small 7" stabilizer. This bow is the store bow used for customers to shoot. They told me it has probably over 1000 shots through it already. I have been buying from them for over 15 years so there is no reason for them to BS me.... I added that for just a little history of me with this shop.

3. The cam grooves are deep. The string sits well inside of the groove. If you derail this bow, see a doctor, there is something wrong with your wrists...lol

4. The limb finish looks awesome. There were no dings, scratches or spots (flaking) on the limb finish at all, and this again is a "store" bow for customers to shoot. Yes I realize it is still very new, but it is sitting on the rack getting knocked around a little. I inspected the hell out of it to try and find a reason to not want it and honestly would not buy one if the finish will be an issue. But it was perfect. So I ordered one.

I like this bow a lot. It is easy to draw, quiet and fast . It balanced and points very nice and does not want to rip my arm off on the draw compared to my Sd. Of course my review is only my opinion and your Experience may be different....haha...... If you are looking for a new bow or a BT fan thinking about this bow, just try one at your dealer.......Hope this helps someone..

Here are a few pics I grabbed off the Net.... I don't have my Black Ops yet... :-( but soon ;-)

The Experience is smoother, quieter and faster than the Cardiac too. Also you don't have to worry about the string stretch as much with the new BT strings as they are built in house. I shot my Assassin all last summer and part of this winter and had almost no string/cable stretch.. The cams have "timing" dots that the string rides between to show you where the cams need to be and they did not stray outside of the dots. The new Experience has these same "timing" dots on the cams too. Seems like a win/win...... The Cardiac will make a great backup for you....lol

I have 4 bowtechs and all are great bows.. I have the tribute, 350d, soldier and the insanity.. After the destroyer 350 I was done until I picked up the insanity... I can tell you this the experience look nice but the insanity is down right crazy .. I don't see me buying it , now I may buy it for my girlfriend Sonia .. She shoots the soldier..which is so impressive for a small bow..

Thanks for the review..

Jim...

The insanity is 6 inch brace height, with a stronger kinetic energy of 98, 355fps 4.3lbs

The experience is 7 inch brace height with kinetic energy of 87, 335fps 4.2lbs

7in brace height will be more forgiving ..

The bows pretty much are identical ....

I have the insanity and. It's nuts.. It hits hard at 75lbs and is pretty much just flat shooting to 35yrds....

Ok guys, I picked up my Experience this afternoon from my dealer. After setting it up and shooting a few arrows through it, the cams were timed pretty close right out of the box but we synced them to be exact. Set the draw weight to 60 lbs. The bow I got is a 50-60 and maxes out at 63.1 lbs. The draw weight was set to 60 lbs exactly. I shoot a 300 grain completed VAP VforceHV 400 arrow with a 100 grain head...so it is a completed 300 grain arrow in total. My draw length is 27". We tied on a nocking point and a string D-loop and installed a Jim Fletcher TruPeep 1/8 " peep sight. Also just as an FYI: the bow string comes with 2 rubber eliminator buttons on the string. We pushed them down towards the bottom of the bow string. After shooting paper for about 5 shots the bow was shooting bullet holes. Initially we got a slight high left tear, but after a couple twists on one of the yokes, the bow shot 3 bullet holes in a row... Then we set up the Chrono to see what kind of speed we would be getting. I put 5 arrows through the chrono and the bow shot 300 fps all five times... 300 fps at my draw length makes me a happy hunter..

I equipped the bow with a Trophy Taker drop-away rest, a Limbsaver windjammer stabilizer with the counter weight to balance out the weight of my two-piece Octane quiver. and installed a new sight from Trophy Ridge. It is called the "REACT" sight. It is a five pin sight that comes in a .019 or as a .010 pin head. I chose the .019 just because the 010 seemed to small for me. Basically the top pin is your 20 yard pin and you cannot move this pin up or down aside from moving the whole sight to move just that one pin, BUT once you get the 20 set, you then can proceed to set up your next pin as 30. When you move the 30 yard pin to hit 30 yrds, as you make that adjustment your remaining pins, 40,50,60 will automatically fall into those respective spots. This is pretty cool stuff here with this sight.... the pins are fully wrapped and protected. The sight also come with a Rheostat light with variable power settings for brightness. The sight comes in camo or all black. I chose the black as it matches the BlackOps theme of the bow. BTW: this is a tool-less sight....

Ok, once I got home, I went outside to the back yard to set the 20 yard pin.. After 2 shots to dial in. I was pounding arrows in a quarter size group with 5 arrows.. I moved back to set the 30 yard pin and that took 3 shots. Spot on!!!! I ran out of light to test the 40,50,60 yard pin setting but I doubt they will be off much and if so I will just have to fine tune the 20 and 30 to make sure that they are smashing "X"'s......

Here is a short video to better explain the sight:

Sorry about no pics just yet. I will get some up in a couple days for sure..

Nice write up.. It seems with the large brace height is is giving you a little slower fps. But really at solid 300 fps can you complain.. I'm glad to see they made that brace height in the split limb concept. It will definitely be more forgiving to the shooter..

Guess I will keep it in mind for the girlfriend if I can get a short draw length for her?

Thanks Joe
