Shad Fishermen Wanted

_X7

Recommended Posts

A lot of guys fish the afternoons. Last years winner only fished a bit in the morning. He lost his anchor. Went home and made another one. Came back 3 hours later and caught $10,000. Just can't make this stuff up, but that is how it works most of the time. You'd be most welcome, Dan. The guy who won the boat didn't fish it at all.

You know I'll be there Mike - looking forward to it. My boat was #5 on the board last year, my cousin and I split about $1,800 total for 5th place, and only missed first by about 6 ounces if I recall correctly. That's enough motivation to try and get back "in the money" for something I am going to be hopefully doing a lot of around that time anyway.  The day we weighed in that 5th place, I lost one at the net considerably larger but as you know very well - that's how it goes in this event!   Only problem with fishing with a partner, is somebody has to claim the income!  LOL

OK, IS The Boat is a Drawn Prize like a Chance and Can someone 15 and under claim, the Boat and where can I buy the entries.

Is this Something Team NJWW would enter and introduce members to Shad Fishing from the Banks?

The boat is a raffle. Anyone can win it. All of the entrant names go into a hat and have an equal chance. An adult will most likely have to sign off for the minor. I'll find out.

You can enter the contest by going to

https://shadfishingcontest.com/application

Print out the application and mail it in. As for the Team NJWW thing that would be on whoever might want to put something like that together. The fees would still be the same.

Making some darts right now. Might be worth giving it a try this year.

Nice John, if Iknew you were making so manY I wouldn't have tied as much , would have used yours .

Jack said he is going to have his fiancé make us a few hundred each as she is learning to perfect tying them.

Jack wont use the ones that look a little messy, we wont have any problem catching fish with them

Glad you enjoyed the videos 57'. That train was passing through Easton/Phillipsburg as it has for many years. Rare to see it and it will never be seen again, sadly. Sorry to hear when you say your days have passed for that kind of thing. Most of that activity is during the contest. You can find yourself alone at other times.

The fishing down there can be like combat fishing at times. The action can be witnessed from busy points of view nearby. People see that and want to crowd into the confluence. The inexperienced find the river can be a bit tricky with the swift currents running into each other there. Getting to know what's needed in anchoring the boat only comes with a lot of yelling and screaming from people who don't want to get rammed or have their anchor ropes get wrapped in a spinning prop. You only get to learn by trying and we were all rookies once. There is a lot of advice given to those newbies on how to anchor up in that environment. The river can be a dangerous place if you go at it haphazard. Paying attention is a must.

I once camped at Worthington across from Shawnee had Kayaks would Achor up mid-River and down by old bridge abutments The currents there were Strong.

One year I thought I hit the Jackpot with the Fish stacked up in the slower waters by Ramp did all I could with Shad Darts only to discover they were all Hickory Shad   :cryingcry:

At south Dead end road, Worthington camp Ground the last site there is a Long Rock Wall where there is a Very large deep hole one can look down hard to get down to the water when clear you can make out several types of fish. have seen Monster Carp some 30-inch Stripers.  at night I would tie up near that spot live line 8" shinners and catch those basses While a Few in Boats with Mast Lights & Raised Platforms would Bow shoot the Carp over by Shawnee between the  Golf Course and Lodge, I  would fill a Bucket with Golf balls from that area most Shags. The Shad Fisherman seemed not to hit that area mostly further down towards the Gap  :headscratch:  My other Kayak adventures is for another time.

.  Again best of luck Bill
