Over the years I have Live trapped by accident many Ground Hogs, Skunks, Squires. Birds,  Possum, by mistake  last night my first Racoon. my target has been 2 cats that make visits to my yard one Small Bird Killing Cat and one huge mangy Tom Cat with a huge hump on its shoulder.  My neighbors reported it as a Bob Cat animal control tried many times and failed. So last Night I baited with Cheese crackers dipped in sardine oil,  2 hours later Mr. Coon was trapped.

I wondered if the scent carried to draw it in don't normally see Coons?

No animals were Harmed all Released unharmed.

The Trapping started when my Vegetable garden was in Place but gave up on the garden. a few years ago.

Good for you but I wouldn’t advertise. Unless you are licensed it is illegal

Incorrect, homeowner suffering damage

Thanks but had no problems in the past. But to be safe since you made a statement I called Local animal control they said they have nothing to do with WILD Life. So I called NJDFAW Animal Control Northern district. They had no problem with using a Havahart Trap and live trap  Critters doing Damage to your Property.  Not just being a Nuisance. they must be Released within 6 miles of the location in the same Township.  To Trap and Destroy is another story.

Don't forget before you release your coons unharmed, to give them a 50 minute lecture about damaging property.

I am sorry but there are a inaccuracies in this post.

It is legal to live trap nuisance damaging animals.  You can dispatch them with an air rifle to the head.  You cannot drown them as that is considered in-humane.  If you live in a no discharge town I was advised to dispatch inside my shed or basement by multiple agencies.  I will pull the law here in a few minutes and re-post it.  Relocating is a pain in the butt with all the guidelines such as you can only relocate in your own town, not on town property..

Thanks for taking the time to post Question???   ( What Agencies advised you on how to dispatch them? )

Another point the links had to do with the releasing the trapped animals No mention on the legality of trapping.

NJDFAW Northern Division was clear on what I posted what part do you feel is Inaccurate?

The only inaccuracy is in your post. Dispatch was never an issue in this thread. Go back an re-read last sentence of Post #5

Sorry but I disagree. I had my attorney review this topic a while back and there are inaccuracies found in post within this thread.

Post number 2 and the 6 mile rule is not a law. When you are bored read through the links I posted and you will find that most of the info on here is accurate. I did discuss this with the NJDFAW Northern Division and the conflict is when you dispatch a pellet to the head it falls within their guidelines but some towns have no discharge ordinances. The way around it is to dispatch in a shed or basement setting outside of the sight of neighbors and within “your house”.

The release rules are so strict relocating is almost not a legal option.

Somewhat unrelated but thanks to tjfslaughter for posting those links. After reading them it would seem to me that as a homeowner suffering damage I would be entitled to trap and/or shoot coyotes, foxes, raccoon, etc...correct? My town does not have a no discharge ordinance, and anywhere on my property is 450' plus from any building (which I'm not sure would even apply here). We will be getting chickens this spring and will inevitably bring in predators. My barn cats are sometimes harrassed by coons and coyotes now and then but they are pretty smart so they usually avoid them. I wouldn't hesitate to blast a coyote if I caught one going after one of my prized mousers-as I understand it pets are considered property and I would be killing a coyote in the act of damaging my property would I not? Just looking for clarification.

I live back in the woods you see

My woman and the kids and the dogs and me

I got a shotgun a rifle and a four wheel drive and a country boy can survive
