Brake Fluid Change ?

My mechanic suggested I change the brake fluid on my Silverado he said it should be done every two years! Do you guys change your brake fluid?

You should change it at some interval. The fluid is hydroscopic so water forms in the system and res which is not a good thing.

That's what he said! All these years and I have never changed it, and I keep my trucks for a long time and thought I was on top of things. Guess you can always learn things!

If its Dot3 id flush and go with dot4. If dot 4 already id do it around 100k unless its very dirty. Dot 3 and 4 are hydroscopic, but the braking system is a sealed system so unless u take your cap off the master cylinder every night theoretically theres no way for moisture to enter the system

I never once changed break fluid in any of my vehicles and never once had any issues. Two cars went over 200K.

I was thinking along the lines of:  Wow, I have 265K on my Tahoe and haven't changed the brake fluid at all

With my ford, it gets changed every time a line blows, or caliper freezes.

I've owned dozens and dozens of vehicles over the last 36 years of driving and never once changed the brake fluid including the fluid in my 1966 Corvette. It's a bunch of hype.

I did my breaks front and rear I bled the line and replaced with fresh break fluid

Thanks Guys, I feel the same as most of you, I always thought I took great care of my vehicles and not once did I change my brake fluid !
