My brother and I got invited to duck hunt with a friend friday and Saturday.. what a blast!

Tough contending with the ice pulling our decoys every 5 mins, but we did awesome.

Here's Friday's hunt lined up..

Limited on ducks- bufflehead, mallard, blacktail

Got A Few brant, red breasted mergansers, and hooded mergansers as well.

My buddys brant was double banded.

Got hung up on the jacket and didn't shoulder the gun in all the excitement.

Got the bird, but it wasn't worth it lol. Hurt pretty bad.

My brother and his first duck as well..

It was extremely cold, but not as bad as I thought. . Didn't even need gloves unless we were touching metal or wet stuff..

I guess that's from the excitement of the hunt gets the blood pumping.

Missed every bluebill that flew by. They didn't slow down for the decoys at all. Probably would be easier without 3 guys in a boat.. tough shooting.

Every time I was about to squeeze the trigger the guys empty shell would eject and hit me in the face lol. Kinda makes ya lose your focus lol.

Great time!

Saturday we got a few more each, no photos. It was slower, but still a blast.20171231_105212.jpg20171230_093648.jpg20171231_105737.jpg20171229_160914.jpgFB_IMG_1514736249500.jpg

I shot 3 double banded brant in NJ and none were reward bands. I did some banded brant research on the Internet and discoverd that since brant live in salt water for a long time, the aluminum bands wear out, then fall off. Monel bands are being tested as a replacement for the aluminum brant bands. All 3 of my monel bands look like new, while the aluminum bands are worn out.

That's interesting to know . I was fortunate enough to shoot a double banded goose from Quebec that had $100 reward band . I always thougt if they were double banded the second band was a reward band . I love the aluminum bands just because of the wear. Adds to the story of where the bird has been .
