i recieved my christmas bonus last week, which was great! nothing like being rewared for a year of hard work. my local gun shop had a henry lever action in 30 30 with the octagon barrel. i fell in love with it the moment i picked it up. i havent bought it yet, but i wanted to see what other folks think about the 30 30. i do not have any experience in the 30 30. i just know that i love lever guns and maybe wanted to pick up another lever gun with alittle more power. so whats your thoughts on 30 30, outside of not being able to hunt with it in NJ.

It has filled plenty of tags nationwide

Really funny , I just got mine this week also and I'm thinking about picking up a 30-30 lever for my Maine hunt next year . Sounds like an awesome gun ! Just go buy it and have fun with it !

While I was up there this year I was handling a Henry 30-30 also and that was what began my quest in finding one . I carried my ww2 Japanese arisaka all week this year , that I reworked . Love it . But ammo is just too damn hard to come across .

The 30-30 is a fine caliber.  Where do you plan on using it? What terrain?

For my entire life, I have almost exclusively hunted whitetails in PA with a Marlin 336 chambered in 35 Remington.  I like the little added knockdown power and like shooting a 200gr bullet for the brushy mountain terrains of PA.

Can't go wrong with the 30-30 or the 35.
