Disappointing saturday

Went to a new river spot in Atlantic County and it was low tide. I thought the tide was done moving for the most part but when the sun came up a 1/3 of my decoys were beached. I saw plenty of big ducks but they eitherflared or never looked. A valuable learning experience i guess. At one point a large group over mallards flew over 50+

Don't sweat it.  Sometimes you get lucky the first time on a new spot, sometimes you have to learn how to hunt it.  Next time you'll have a better idea of the tide and where to place the decoys.  Assess your hide and what can be improved.  I was out Friday morning to a spot I've been wanting to try.  I hunted where I wanted to be, but not where the birds wanted to be.  A couple bufflehead, but I'll shift my location next time and hopefully do better.  Best of luck with your season!
