Pre-snow success...

Headed out early to a spot that in the past use to be a honey hole however, this year hasn't been producing.  I checked the trail cam, took a walk and wasn't happy with the results as there's very little sign.  Decided to head to another spot that's hit or miss... mostly miss, but with the snow coming I figured now's as good a time as ever to sit over some bait.  Got settled in and waited.  A busted rack six showed up then this guy...

Went back and forth on takin him and decided it's been a slow year so why not, but not right now as there's some daylight left.  Time went on and I thought to myself okay it's time to put a hole in something.  I stood up to use a tree limb for my rest.  Just as I did both deer looked back in the same direction and I saw a body through the hedgerow.  Threw up the bino's and thought okay that's a little better.  He came threw the hedgerow and I knew right away who he was as I had a ton of pictures of this guy, but never saw him once on the hoof.

After feeding for a few minutes he turned broadside.  I settled the crosshairs and the H&R barked and I knew he was hit good as he ran up into the field and went down hard.

Now for the fun stuff...

Even though I'm no longer crazy about the Lightfield's, I know they do the job and I haven't had the chance to zero with something else.  These slugs are made to mushroom and not exit, and they're very good for that, which means when it comes time to track, good luck.  Although, I've never killed a deer with one that didn't die in sight I'm going to find something that'll exit.  I pulled the slug out of the skin on the opposite side and this is the least amount of expansion I ever had with them.

I have much respect for an animal that is hit like this and still runs 75-80 yards.
