DFW sent out wrong info??

Just got an email from DFW - its this:

http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/news/2017/dechunts17.htm

where it says, "Also, all upland small game hunting (including coyote/fox) is closed during December 4-9".

That isn't correct according to the digest - the two charts on pages 54 and 57 show no break in the yote/fox season like that. Shows its open during 6-day.

What's up with that?

I have always read and understood that any active deer season - you can shoot coyotes, regardless of predator season regs.   Not sure that applies to fox.

But can you actively hunt them during that week? i.e. call them, have a predator caller/decoy with you? Digest says you can (for both fox and yote). But their email/website says you cannot.  :headscratch:

I would surmise and am fairly certain, you can hunt them ONLY with the legal deer hunting weapon you choose.  You can't set up with a predator call and .223....  You can shoot them with a bow or slug or buckshot...

Nothing spooks deer more than my stank…

Right, the special predator season doesn't start until Jan 1 so no rifles. Bow/arrow or shotgun only. But look at the digest charts (pp 54, 57) - says yote/fox general season runs straight through Nov 11 to March 15 (except Sundays). Which implies we can set up and call for them during the day.

I have a friend whose private property has a pack of yotes. I was thinking of hunting them some days that week to avoid the war zone public WMAs during 6-day.

For the record, I emailed DFW and they are researching this to get the correct answer. They see there is a discrepancy in the digest and their website. I think the digest is correct and that the season is open - the actual law in the NJAC matches the digest and I can't find anything that overrides this law:

Maybe a safety issue??? Don't want predator Hunter being mistaken for a deer when the hordes of orange are out???

I'm sure that's why they would like it to be that way - even the DFW folks that emailed me back seemed surprised that both the digest and the actual law state it is legal. They are going to email me back after the lawyers take a closer look at.

To add, for the record, I emailed the division on an update for the hatchery and some other questions I wanted answers to.  That was back in June and I still haven't gotten a response.  Guess the email response person is on vacation.  IMO the whole DFW needs a total top down review and serious staff change.  I know there is a lot of support for DFW on this site and a lot of guys here disagree with this opinion but it has become a corrupted political organization and no longer serves the interest of hunters and fishermen and the only way to change that is to get new people in.

Hmmm. I have actually never had to wait more than 48 hours to get a response to any question I've asked them (usually it's much quicker than 48 hours - that's probably the longest I had to wait) and I've asked more than a few over the past couple years. The way I send my questions is through the website (I don't send an actual email - I submit it through the website - dunno if that makes a difference in the way they handle requests)... this page here --> http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/contactform.htm

That said, I didn't get an "actual" answer yet to this coyote season question - the initial response was on the order of, "I'm sending this up the chain to senior staff to clarify the law."

Okay so how do you get new people in? do you need special training is it a state exam public service exam you got to take?
