Rattler shed found

Recommended Posts

First time in one of my stands on Monday for the muzzy opener, and I notice something blowing from a tree branch. No deer, so when I drop down I walk over to it, and find that another person hung a shed from a rattlesnake. It is stuck together, so I can't get a true measurement, but I'm about 3' at my hips, so I'm guessing the snake is at least 4' long. Does the state want me to report this find? I know they keep track of the snakes, and this guy seems to be a pretty big one.

What would be the purpose of not allowing to keep a shed snake skin?

Cant' have in your possession any non-game bird feather, any bird nest, and shed snake skin, and non-game turtle shell (so I guess any snapping turtle is OK - IF you have a permit),  or any part of any non-game species.  I get the feathers and nests, maybe cause someone could be accused of killing it or taking the nest during breeding, but a shed snake skin?????  Be pretty tough to kill a snake and then get it to shed it's skin..............

Black Racer and/or Black Rat Snake.  Either way, its not legal to have or keep them.............  Yea I know, it's a stupid law..............  Posting for informational purposes only

Not keeping it, no need for a snake skin. It will be returned to the woods. As for it being a rattler, I'm probably wrong which is why I posted here looking for those with more knowledge. Here is a tail pic.
