Can't wait to sit on this perch...

Today I met with the farmer who allows my son and I to hunt one of his pieces. I picked up his car to detail/wax it for the winter months as a thank you along with venison we provide to him with. Afterwards, we went for a walk on the property...The blind I have placed in the oaks have been less than productive with several small deer on camera. He said, I will show you the rock where an old timer used to sit each year and kill deer....When he told me this several years ago, I assumed it was a huge rock in the middle of the property....I was wrong, because when I saw this rock, immediately it looked like the place to be. We kicked up 10 deer bedded below it as we walked towards it and it was above some of the thickest cover I have seen in a long time...Clearing some of the tree that fell onto it, I discovered an aluminum ladder going to the top. On top of the rock, old blind material along with an old stool was placed on top. This just looked cool...Took some pics and they are posted below.....

Cannot wait to go back when I am off this week to build something on top of it. Perhaps a railing with 2 seats positioned on top with new burlap blind material surrounding it...

Always fun to try new things to change it up. Can only imagine the deer the old man who has passed has taken from above this perch over the years!

You have enough material around that rock to make a natural teepee.  I'd go with that.  Lean the logs, tie up some of that small stuff, and it'll last for a few years.  Then put your chairs up on top.  You could even secure them to the frame of the teepee.  Those big logs aren't going to move once you lean them against the rock.  And a natural blind is far better than a synthetic one.

looks good. i would also burlap around the base, it it is real cold and windy you can sit on ground and take cover behind rock

Good idea, I am actually planning on moving the blind to the vicinity of the rock for bad weather hunts with the muzzy...

Tim, what is funny is it looks like the old timer did exactly that in the past....You can see in one of the pics is a long log on the right side that extends above the top...I bet there were ones going up on each side...Love the anticipation and preparing as much as actually getting a deer...This I think is the best part of it....

You're like a kid on Christmas day!  I can't wait to see what you and Christopher do with it.  If you need an extra set of hands, or someone to take pictures, let me know.

That's cool I love to find spots like that. Years ago I found a fallen tree it snapped about 10 foot up the trunk the trunk was hollowed about 4 foot deep .I sat in it with my son and shot deer .my son was4 years old .it keeped us concealed and warm. Those where fun days .it rotted away but the memories go on. Good luck with the rock hope you continue to make so memories there
