Out in Zone 11 on a mission

I'm home. I forky stayed in the field for about 45 minutes. I had a doe in the woods about 75 yards to my right and three deer across the field and through a hedgerow in front of me. I saw a fox across the field and a lone doe walked through the field at last light. Pretty uneventful but a nice evening.

The story of the bow.

Several years back, one of my good friends had gone to the darkside. He sold his bow and bought a crossbow. He hunted with it for a couple of years and killed a couple of does but that was it. He called me one day in the summer of 2014 and asked if I knew anyone to buy his crossbow. He had decided to get another bow. He said he just wasn't enjoying hunting with a crossbow as much as with a compound. He sold his crossbow and went down to Rendezvous and bought a Mathews Creed. They set the bow up for him with a Vapor Trail rest and an HHA sight, Mathews quiver, stabilizer and Easton Flatline arrows. He couldn't get it to shoot well so he brought it over to my house and, even though it was a Mathews, I went over it and got it dialed in for him.

He hunted with it in that fall and the next fall but never killed anything. He did well during muzzleloader and shotgun seasons but nothing during bow. Next year he'll get one with the bow I told him.

On January 21st 2016 I was sitting in my office with another friend of ours going over trail cam pictures when I got a frantic call from my wife telling me that she just heard that our friend Emil had passed away. He was only 58 years old.

I told his family, when the estate is settled that I would buy his bow. And that's what I did. I ordered a 29" cam and replaced his 30". I made a couple other small changes. Got rid of the catfish loop and tuned it up.

I sighted it in this afternoon and now I'll hunt with it until I kill a deer.
