Trust land

Not trying to make anyone give away there secret spots. Just wondering if anyone has hunted any of the NJ trust land and had any luck?

I hunted a few the bow only ones are better imo not as many people

The rest get hammered by clubs and the orange army during shotgun season

As of last year I believe there is no more driving on county land. At least ocean county. I hsve taken a few deer from county land trusts

At least the one I hunt does not every day or weekend but a few times during the season

And as soon as gun season is close stands start popping up everywhere

That's when my cameras come home for the season

We had a piece of land trust property but it sucked because they force you to shoot does. I don't mind taking some when I want, but i dont like being told I need to shoot 2 does before taking a buck- especially when the herd is down.

I'm all about herd management but they just wanted the deer gone and that's not why i hunt.

 

Not sure if all land trusts do that or not..

Land Trust, yes. However, I only hunt one piece and thats only because they dont offer permits, except, if handicapped.

Unfortunately, most are like that. The preservationists look at deer as something evil that must be eradicated.

Get on the website and it gives topo maps of every area. Some really nice places especially early season.

The only reason these properties are open to hunting in the first place is to control the deer herd.  And the only way to control the herd is by shooting does.  I've been running these types of hunts for over 20 years.  If you don't have rules in place that force hunters to shoot does then the hunt is set up to fail, too many guys buck hunt and let the does walk.

I walked a local bow only land trust last winter thinking there would be less pressure, boy was I wrong. More stands than any WMA I've walked. Granted they may never be hunted but I passed.
