coyotes are out of hand!!

Weekday mornings this fall is my time to hunt out of a blind I have set up on some private property that my friend owns.

 

I was wondering why I stopped seeing all the turkeys that I was seeing a couple weeks ago (I was regularly seeing the Four Stooges from my blind).

 

Well, this morning, a police car with its sirens blaring rode by on a road that is about a mile away. The woods LIT UP with coyotes in ALL directions. I mean, I heard them in front of me, in back of me. I tried counting them by the sounds of the howls, there had to have been at least 8, maybe 10. And some of them were no more than 100 to 200 yards away from me. They were real close. Heard a couple farther away, but most were super-close.

 

I knew this place had coyotes in the past (I even saw one during fall turkey season last year), but the ladies must have been seriously busy having pups the past year because this is by far the most I've ever heard at one time.

 

No way I'm going to be able to get rid of them by hunting. I might have to take the trapping course and get a license.

They are definitely growing in population fast.  Out walking my dog, I always hear them at night and there aren't just 1 or 2.

I saw one of the most beautiful coyotes I have ever seen this morning. He was very large and a deep chocolate in color with black markings and light brown highlights. Going right across some back yards, just inside the woods, and NO, it absolutely wasn't a pet dog. He snuck in right behind me as I was facing the woods. Got to 15 yards before I heard him and when I turned, he stopped for a second, then ran off. I've seen a few big yotes in this piece but that one had the best markings yet.

I've been saying this for a few years now.   I find it somewhat frustrating NJ F&G seems to be completely non-interested in conducting a survey, but my belief is coyote numbers have EXPLODED over the last decade or so.

 

I don't know how to tan etc... so if I take one during deer season, is there a place to "donate" the carcass to?

Used to have a small pack behind the house that you'd hear when the 6 o'clock fire alarm went off during the winter, but would never see them. Fast forward a couple years and they're running through the neighborhoods.

I used to hear them like city dogs barking all night.  Then I got into predator hunting.  I see very few of them now.  They're out there, and they're a fun challenge to hunt.  I strongly recommend predator season and whacking yotes.

I'm lowering a small lake in Lebanon Twp. (Hunterdon) on a church camp and the deer bones and coyote tracks are everywhere. Plus they have been digging up and eating all the turtle eggs in the sand by the former beach. Usually that's raccoons doing that, but the tracks don't lie.

They call that "selling green" IIRC. Selling the whole carcass. Last I researched this, I found two that buy green (this is South Jersey only, didn't research up north) - I don't know if they still buy green, you'd have to ask. One is Newt (snareone) and the other is T Zander & Sons in Deptford.

 

Don't expect to get much - I figure $5 maybe?

Same here. I've heard them for years, but starting this year .... they're running around my house. Its pretty amazing, actually. Really pissing off my dog, too.

I'm not that far back of my friend's house. I mean, these yotes are real close to the house - just a couple hundred yards away. They have a dog and a cat. I need to tell them to make sure they don't let the cat out of the house. I'm sure they know that - you cannot NOT hear these things when they go off.

How far are you hunting from the Winslow WMA?

They are all over Zone 8. One of the properties that I hunt, the landowner wants them all dead.

In this particular spot I am about 7 miles from the center of Winslow WMA.

Heard rumors of Coyotes in my area.  But not a rumor that The Turkeys in flocks of 4-12 have all but disappeared since Spring. 

The Deer that traveled through my backyard 1 to 5 at a time has dwindled down to an occasional single or pair.

The Woodchucks are a rare site when I had a family under my shed every year to have not seen them anymore.

Had a few feral cats hanging around my yard but they disappeared. 

Had a fox this spring in and on my deck have not seen it again.

Had a Rabbit Family under my deck for many years have not seen them for a Month. Even the Chipmunks are gone.

I have a Solar Powered Digital spotlight with a Motion detector that goes on now and then suspects a deer. 

I see no Coyote sign anywhere in the yard but come to Snow I see some.  

Have to get a Trail cam to find out what is recommended for this purpose.
