Look into getting a whistle collar. I have a 13 year old dog that is a master at getting out of the yard, The whistle will give you a notification on your phone when the dog leaves their "whistle zone". Then you track them through the APP by GPS.

For,a dog that's prone to taking trips a gps tracking collar is worth its weight in gold. Even when they are in the back yard.

I don't know anything about the AKC link, but It looks like the both work the same.

This has happened to me once before, where i couldnt even hear my pup anymore, which was weird because she is a coon hound and beys a lot, anyway, i walked the entire mountain and started to get nervous....10 hours later the local dog shelter calls me, some old guy picked up my dog and held her in his house before he decided to take her to a shelter, he said he couldnt read the address and phone number on her tag...he just wanted some company I guess.
