Thanks everyone

I set up on oak flats this morning with acorns dropping to my left and right. Wind from my right. Of course all action was to my left. Before sun rise 3 different deer sniffed me out and let the entire county know I was there. First light they started again filtering from the creek bottom back on acorns to my left. The one I shot had two other in tow. She got within 40 yards to me when she realized something was up but I had trees in my way. She turned around heading back down to the creek. By the time she stepped out for a clear shot she was at 50 yards, with her head up tasting the air. I was ready, set with my crossbow on the gun rest and next thing I know I heard that familiar sound of an arrow hitting a pumpkin. She dropped in placed and died within 20 seconds. Rusty is this white oak? They are hammering it.

Congrats. Yep. White oak. Generally they are the only acorns they eat right now. The rest are too bitter. Once the fall rains and winter snows have leached the bitterness out of the other acorns then they will eat them.

Seriously white oak are crack for deer. They will walk past ANY other food source to get to them. I just wish the white oak would last until the rut. It would be like shooting fish in a barrel. Lol

Thanks

After I shot I watched 6 different deer take off. They were all feasting on it and we have soybeans, alfalfa and corn
