Bear Baits Slowing Down?

BHC

Recommended Posts

Talking to a few other baiters many are claiming their baits either slowed with bears or just dried up. Some say the mass acorn dropping, or other baits out by other hunters.

What's your opinion on this?

Where I'm hunting there isn't many acorns dropping

I honestly don't see the mass acorns every body talking about. Like said above every day another pile of bait appears every 250 yards along with behind every body's house.

Sad when you put in months of work to see your bait go dry.

Ps no wAy Bears eating acorns they dieing from sugar diabiates !!!!!!!!!!!

set two baits up today.

In 45 years of hunting I have never seen so many white oak acorns on the ground. through out a few miles of woods that is loaded with white oaks I was stepping on 2 or 3 with every step.

as good as the mast crop was a few seasons ago , there are five times the nuts on the ground right now

Definitely the mass amounts of natural foods (mostly acorns). I see the same bears on my cameras daily but acting completely different recently. Late summer/ early September they would sit for hours eating. Now, still in the area and getting daily pics but they just "stop by" for a quick bite. I notice the same activity with deer too. This is seen on 8 cameras, all different areas/ properties.

Same with me. Instead of the barrel being empty in 3 days, I get six out of it now with the same 7-8 bears hitting it. They stop by for 10 minutes and move on. Adding some new baits to the line up this week after stopping by Andover Hunting and dropping some cash. Gonna smell like an apple pie factory after I'm done!

Opportunity expands in proportion to one's courage.

they will leave an area in search of acorns. ive seen it many times. the other problem could be that your bait isnt enough to keep them interested or perhaps another bait showed up closer to where the bear is spending most of his time. theyre lazy and a bait that cuts you off will get most of the attention. however, my money is on the acorns.

"That's a dead bear!"

The other pile next to you maybe serving Boston Cream and we all know this is the most popular donut on the planet :happywave:

This is the year of plenty for all animals. Whatever they eat naturally is out there in huge quantities. This was a wet and therefore very green summer
