Gsp with sore foot/toe

Recommended Posts

My poor guy has something going on with his back foot

I read a few things that point to a furicle.

I have been soaking his foot in epson salt for 15 min 2 times a day along with neosporin.

Now he's taking oral antibiotics.

Looks like it's getting somewhat better.

He had this week off from training, my kids toys are paying for his Boardum

Hopefully he's back in action next week.

Anyone ever experience anything like this?

Nope, though it does kinda look like some kind of infection, since you have him on antibiotics I'm betting you took him to see a vet, so I'm sure he'll be as right as rain in about a week or two. And yeah, when they get bored they find a way to occupy thier time, not always the way we'd like! Lol

Is his pad red from infection or injury? This is a total guess, but does he have something stuck in his pad or some type of burn. Does he like to run on the street or driveway? I had dog burn/scrap a paw from continued short stopping as she would chase a toy my kids were tossing.

It's good your pup is on an antibiotic.....good move! Hope your pup gets better quick.

He had a blister in between his two toes on the top of his foot the blister popped but his toe is swollen

He's only on the grass and training in the woods so I don't think it's a burn. vet and took a look at it she gave me antibiotics to give him.

I didn't see anything stuck in his toe like a horn.

I read which sometimes is not a good thing, that short haired dogs can get something called a furnicle which is a ingrown hair that gets infected. Knock on wood today it didn't seem to bother him as much.

Still a bit swollen but not as red.

I hope he's all better soon we got a long season ahead of us.

I run my GSP every evening on grass and a cinder driveway and try to get her out 3 days a week to Colliers Mills for an hour or so.  I feel that if they don't get out and run their pads don't get tough.

I also give her Nutramax Cosequin Tablets ASU Sport Joint and Pad Health Dog Supplement.

And any time I run her she gets a good wiping down with a towel, then brushed and her body and pads checked.

I figure if there is an issue hopefully it can be caught early on.

I thought, growing old would take longer !

I spent most of my money on shotguns and fly rods.  The rest I just wasted.

I had somthing similar happen with Attila when he was younger, a toe swelled up, when I checked he had a puncture in it, quick corse of antibiotics and he was fine, a hunting dog as we all know can get a bit banged up! Lol and we worry about it more than the dogs do!

You sure it wasn't one of those evil seeds that burrows into the skin?

My German shepherd had a sore between his toes last summer, vet took x rays and looked at it and had no idea what it was. Prescribed antibiotics and a lotion to put on it. I was told to keep it dry and kept a sock on it to keep him from licking it. It cleared up within a week and all is good

My vet looked at it and prescribed antibiotics and a antiseptic wash

She didn't say what it was but just some sort of infection

If it doesn't clear it in 10 day I got to go back
