Ten Point vs Horton.

I think Horton was the first company with the reverse draw crossbow. Ten Point bought Horton and now they have a one at a cost of $1,800.

So I went on Horton site and they have almost identical, if not identical bow for $1,250 or $999 if you select regular cocking mechanism.

The difference between the two is Ten point will give you 15FPS  more ….BIG  deal
Horton bow is a MUCH better deal.

I didnt make the switch to crossbow but came very close this year. I noticed with some of the $700+ bows you got more fps but not necessarily more ftlbs of ke. Some of the $400 nows were 385fps and 120ftlbs ke where I saw a 415fps bow with 105ftlb. Personally i would like a good balance.not sure how they figure the fps vs ke. Very cool tho

It only tells me you will get there. You don't have to set yourself to make a switch. just another option, but once you start hunting with a crossbow you just may stay with it :-)

hahaha i may! My Mathews was in the shop and it was getting close to the season, but they had me set the week before. How far do you guys shoot with a crossbow? Im comfortable out to 40 and have shot 50 in the past with my vertical? Comfort out to 50 would help push me in that direction!

I shot one buck with my Hoyt at 40 yards but that was not my comfort level while in the woods hunting.

It is a lot different with a crossbow, especially shooting from rest. I have no hesitation taking 40 yards shots with it. Last season I took two nice bucks, both 40 yard shots with very little time to make them, and year before I tool a buck at 50 yards. For me its not even the distance making the difference. Its is how quickly you get to see your arrow fly, compering to vertical. From the moment I range it the shot is on its way within 5 seconds or less. Good luck

i have an excalibur  i got after shoulder surgery as much as i like it i have killed several deer with it i find it a little bulky for my liking and the way i hunt. unfortunately my compound was stolen so for now thats all i have but i still wouldn't give it up completely. one thing I will say i spent a lot of time talking to men and women on the excalibur forum that hunted with cross bows for years and they all seem to agree that after 35-40 yards they tend to lose energy effecting penetration even though they are still accurate way beyond basically keep shots at 30-40 yards max some of the newer bows you may get a little more . as for ten point vs horton  i remember horton having issues a few years back so i would go with ten point also they seem to be consistantly reliable.

Yep, if you hunted with vertical all your life the crossbow is a challenge at first because it is bulky.

The two bucks I shot at 40 yards last year were devastated by the impact. Both double lung and both hit the opposite shoulder, completely breaking it in half, even at 40 yards. The first one managed to moved 20 yards the 2nd buck dropped in place and expired within 30 seconds.

The 2nd buck would be still walking if I had a compound. I had to reach behind the tree I was in.

I have the Horton going on 3 years now. No complaints whatsoever. I had 2 cracked string stops. I called them zero questions asked had 2 new ones in 3 days.

40 yards it shoots tight enough groups that you need to switch dots on the target or ruin bolts.

Good info, thanks. I am currently leaning to Horton. (which one do you have?)

the biggest issue for me is that i like to use multiple trees for cover. if i find three trees  together i would set my hang on in the center using the trees and the branches for cover to break up my silhouette and  i use that method with a ladder stand but it makes it hard to shoot with a crossbow...

Its actually easier with a cross bow. You can easily reach behind trees, even trees you are in, with a crossbow, when vertical will have you watch the deer walk by.

Just purchased a Horton Vortec RXD. I'm beyond pleased with it. Light, quiet, and accurate. Great scope and the sled cocker makes it a breeze.

Got a smoking deal on it too!

That's great. Keep us posted as you go, I like to see how you like it after you use it for a while. The Vortec seams to be a very good deal.

The main difference between the two bows is the carbon rail. It makes it about 1/2 pound lighter. The speed difference with the Nitro was achieved with a lighter arrow. If they used the same it would be the same speed. Another difference may be the scope. You can get the upgraded scope and accudraw on the Horton too. There is about a $500 difference with the same bells and whistles. You decide whether it's worth it. I have the Storm and that's about all I want to spend.
