I seen a lot of life in the surf this year but all south of seaside park to cape may. Spring had a great time with big blues (few stripers), summertime I caught more sharks (and variety) than ever before (100+). Been catching a decent amount of fluke as soon as the snapper blues took over. I read many reports daily and it seems sandy hook area was fairly dead this year.

I usually get to Sandy Hook for a few trips each year but didn't this year.  It certainly can be very hit or miss.  You catch 10 nice stripers one day and go back the next, same tide, and get nothing.  Should have been here yesterday as the saying goes.

Sandy Hook is a waste of time most days since Sandy  :headscratch:  I fish 99% the Surf and Bayshore during peak summer heat and humidity I am Grounded.   My Grand son now 11 has become a big surf guy past years. Deal Casino Beach Club has been his home base those years The Beach Replenishment changed little as far as fishing goes. As I am a dead sticker he likes Casting. The Fluke has been biting there all summer More so NOW with more legal ones,  as well as School Stripers. No shortage of Blues with Blitzes at times.  Snappers arrived in August with no let-up as they get bigger now some 1 LBRs won't be long till the choppers join in with bigger stripers.

With now having 2 grandsons fishing and cooler weather ahead will be hitting the Surff from Deal to Ocean Grove. Will be at the north end of Ocean Grove this coming Tuesday after Labor day.  with Blues and Fluke on the Menue. be teaching them Fly fishing as snappers are a good beginning.

Like they say you have to have a line in the water to Catch Fish PM if interested on Tuesday.

I never fish the surf during summer months, it's just a waste of time for the most part.  For me, it's all about the fall and spring migrations and chasing bait to find the fish.  Albies will bring me to Sandy Hook very soon, and then there are blues when and where you find them followed by stripers going into October through at least December.  NJ's biggest issue is a lack of structure to hold fish.  With all of the beach replenishment going on, our cuts between sand bars are gone.  Stone and wooden groins, jetties, and the few rips such as the False Hook and the Hook that can be reached from the beach are the only real structure that orients the fish.  In NJ, if the bait isn't around, neither are the predators we chase most of the time.

Fishing is never a waste of time since God does not deduct that time from your life span   All 4 seasons have opportunities along our Shorelines Surf and Beach. Migrations are most productive but Bass Blues Fluke Kings Croakers provide many days of good Fishing and Catching.  Fishing and Hunting to me is The Sport while Harvesting and Catching are just the rewards.

As you say chasing Bait   to old for that I let it come to me  ;)

But Fresh Water for me is Fall
