Bear season

My buddy and I are thinking of camping up north for archery bear season this year. Last year we drove 2+hrs each way and by the 3rd day it took its toll. We are looking for a campground that would be in a centralized location to the hunting grounds. The problem is we aren't sure where we are hunting exactly yet. It is tough for us to get up there to scout as we both are ridiculously busy between the national guard, our civilian jobs and our little ones at home (complaining wives too). If anyone could point us in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated. We won't be baiting so any tactics would also be helpful.  Sussex county seems to have the highest success rate and concentration, but we won't rule anywhere out. We are not looking for specific locations, just general areas that would have camping close by. (Unless you feel extremely generous and want to show us a secret spot.)

Thank you in advance for any help.

Go to federal land where baiting isn't allowed, since you won't be baiting.   I helped a friend out last year, who brought 4 other friends, by showing him around a park by me.  They baited, had a lot of pics of bears, and opening day everyone else was sitting on their bait.  They couldn't get away from other hunters.  Fed land may be less crowded do to no baiting.  I know the federal refuge by me wasn't open to bear bowhunting last year, so check other fed lands to be sure bow is allowed there.  Campgrounds at Stokes or Worthington.

There are a good amount of bears in Zone 3.  You can stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Haskell and hunt Norvin Green and Ringwood State Park.  You can also get to some other state land from that point too.  Close to the highway and close to the woods.  Some decent food and bars close by too.

Sapere aude.

Audeamus.

When you cannot measure, your knowledge is meager and unsatisfactory.
