A holy sh#t late morning moment on my minerals today

not too proud to admit that the 2015 z5 deer apocalypse might have had something to do with the ridiculous acorn yield.... It made little sense at the time, but also two mild winters in a row and more bear-beat-downs including fall archery for the first time have also helped fawn recruitment.

Deer have a very high reproductive rate and can rebound very quickly under the right conditions.  A couple of mild winters and a serious reduction in the bear population will allow the deer herd to bounce back quickly.

I was running a management hunt for a community that had a serious deer problem.  Once we got the population down to under 20 deer / sq mi they cancelled the hunt.  Two years later they called me in a panic, they were overrun with deer again.

? Are the bucks drinking the water in the puddle or is the puddle the actual mineral site?

. The puddle is a Lucky Buck mineral site. They been digging it out since early April. Now it collects water. They dig around the edges of puddles until it dries up then they hit the center.

I've only seen two "slammers" in NJ over the past few years and both were in z2, not near my house. One of which I missed last year.  The last true "Slammer" I have seen in z5 I shot in 2011.

Let's see a pic of that slammer.  Is it the one in your avatar?

affirmative.  Same spot on my minerals, and only had one July 24th velvet showing of him back then. He never re-appeared until 11/18/2011.  As you can see, not much more growth from late July onward... Just another inch on each G3 and end of beams is all.  I see very little growth on ANY buck the month of August.

So I got on my flight at 11:30 PM, 12.5 hours after I got to the airport.

Delayed. Got on the plane. They told us to get off the plane. Got back on the plane at 6:30PM. Was on the tarmac for an hour. Problem with the plane, back to the gate. Flight cancelled. Me and a few hundred people try to find a new flight back to Newark. I verbally berate some useless Delta operator on the phone who was about as useless as a sack of dicks. Went back to the Delta Sky Club where they actually tried to help me. Off to another terminal to see if I can get on standby. Go to the Delta Club at the new terminal and they bump me to the front of the standby list. I finally get a seat. The plane is again delayed. No stewardesses. We get some. Plane delayed again because the delay caused by the stewardesses bumped our pilots onto another flight. We finally get pilots. Flight takes off at midnight.

I go back to Atlanta Sunday.

Oh, nice buck, Jack.

Sapere aude.

Audeamus.

When you cannot measure, your knowledge is meager and unsatisfactory.

Mid August is a month that the antlers get to be bone, blood vessels are turned off, and shedding takes place, from now July 15th to about August 10th growing on the tines will continue but will be slower then has been, 1" per tine, maybe 2" at best
