My Skeet Setup

Got Involved Shooting Skeet in the 90s Stared off at Englishtown Range for fun but got caught up in it big time. Started with my 1100 Rem. stock only to have a few tricks installed. When I started Shooting Pro Competition and qualified a handicap at Thunder Mountain,  I joined NJSSA where I only shot 12 Ga. Competitions.  Then expanded or Graduated to 4 Gun shooting Where I invested in a Browning Citori 12ga

That I sent to have Briley premium set of Tubes installed and other Bells and Whistles - Back Boring Forcing Cones  Trigger Vented Barrels. Compensator.  So along with that investment,  I added 3 Semi-auto reloaders and 1 single station being 410.

Keeping 3 powders -  2 sizes of shot 6 different wads and Primers took some time to learn different recipes. but had good teachers.

The competition took place at Range 16 Dix. Earl Navy Base  Pinebelt, Thunder Mountain,  Kenilworth, Palm Beach Fla. Practice at Englishtown.  Took time to get first 25 straight to 50 Straight to 75 Straight  But that 100 Straight just never came.

Competing took its toll on my Shoulder Let alone my Wallet. 4 gun shoots took 3 Days to compete and at times up to 6 to 700 Rounds add travel food lodging. ammo costs Entry Fees for all gun shoot was $25 each round plus side betting.  That all lasted like 19 years all toll.

Photos show My 1100 and Browning with its Tube Sets. an,d Custom Hard Case.

other photos show Loaders and Supplies.   Buying Lead at Harrys Sporting and Powder-- Primers Wads all the way to Delaware. Was when we did a Group Buy. Later became a Member at Earl Navy base where I bought a lot at big Discounts.

Trap shootings were my weakest link since The Skeet habits would prevent good scores so that remained a Side Fun Thing.

So after some 19 years, I sold every Thing as a Package Of Course at a Loss.  I still wish I never sold That Browning. Not only for its increase in Value but  to hand it down to Grandsons as Always

Englishtown Shut down. Earl Range.Closed  At Fort Dix had a hand in Rebuilding Loaders and Installing

the Lights.  Hope you enjoy my story Bill

Anyone on NJW&W shoot NJSSA or had. Some may notice this room is now my Man Cave

With all the members is there anyone reloading shotgun loads or shoot skeet or trap. Share your stories. And Photos  Bill

I used to shoot trap a lot when I was a teen.  I remember trying out for the trap team as a freshman in college.  Told the "captain" I thought I was pretty good, never really competed. He wanted to see what I could do. I remember missing the first one, then breaking 99 straight.  He said "you made the team".   I asked him if 99 was good, and he said his best was like 96 or 97.

I simply lost interest in it over the years.  Would shoot occasionally at local outings, usually I was a young 20-something against a bunch chirpy 30,40, 50 somethings. I more than held my own in that, as well as the horseshoe competitions

I don't shoot guns anymore, just my bows.  I never did try skeet - probably should, but I have enough hobbies as is.

Last time I threw horseshoes, it was clear that game has passed me by, so I am sure my trapshooting would be very very rusty. I think if I were to get back into shooting, the skeet would interest me more since I never tried it.

Nothing spooks deer more than my stank…

Yes i am a reloader and a trap/sporting clays guy. My reloading is now mainly for game since the uptick in the cost of powder and lead has made loading trap loads not really cost effective and todays factory trap loads are pretty good. I have a couple berettas which my son loves to use for both game and clays but with all the guns i own i still would rather use a model 12 for trap and a model b sxs for clays. Actually in the days before steel i was a terror in the blind with my model b and and loads of #4 lead. Two years ago i decided to take the plunge and bring the model b back into action. I lengthened the forcing cones and opened up the chokes to imp and light mod. Now reloading has come back into my life but in the form of steel shot in super shotcups forming custom duck killers. My son and i love shooting at lehigh valley sporting clays, clinton wma throwing doubles with our clay thrower and an occasional trap shoot at farmers. I know some guys are puzzled when they know the guns i own yet show up with the model b but its just one of those guns that "fit" like no other. No aiming, just staring at the clay or duck as it crosses and dropping them out of the skyIMG_0668.JPG
