If you ever have the urge to part with that advantage camo 835 Im your guy. Bar none the best patterning turkey gun out there due to the overbore factor. It may be a bit rattly but I can put over 300 hits in a 10" circle with the right choke and ammo.

That set aside 3 1/2" is nice because why not? but I have a few guns that actually pattern 2 3/4 better then 3"s so you never know. I am a bit of a turkey gun nut probably have 10 and 30 or so different chokes. With the right ammo choke combo you can get great patterns with any of the mentioned. Pick a gun that you feel comfortable with and find the combo it likes best.

Remington Super Mag 3.5 inch. Federal 3.5 #6 flight control wad with a Remington Super full choke tube. If you decide to shoot the flight control wads you can't shoot them through a ported choke tube

You will get a different response from every poster.  I like Mossberg shotguns, mostly because it's easy to figure out if the gun is on safe or fire when the moment of truth arrives, but I know a lot of guys like 870s also. I have an 835 for spring turkey (scoped), and a 535 for fall turkey (no scope), it's feather light for long days walking. I like shooting 3.5" shells, just because I can. I don't see the need for a semi unless you just plain like them, I never remember having to take more than 2 shots at any turkey I ever killed.

Most important though is getting the right gun/choke/shell combination. I've had both of my guns worked on, the 835 will easily kill out to 50 yards plus, the 535 is good to 40 at least, but never tried patterning it further. I like shorter barrels on my guns, just because you have less likelihood of getting hung up on twigs or brush if you are in a tight spot.

Catch & release is for guys who don't know how to cook. :cook:

I hunted years with an 870 express in 3" shooting federal premium turkey loads, 2oz 4's with a primos jellyhead choke tube, gun patterned great to 50 yards, but I keep my shots close, 30 yards is as far as I ever shot.

When I had my Steoger M3000, auto. That gun like 3" federal premium turkey loads 5's in the 2oz load through a tightwad coke, gun was good to 45 yards.

Just a bead sight on the 870.

A peep sight on the M3000.

Hunt with a Vizsla, cause life's to short to hunt with an ugly dog! :D RIP Tilly monster. (Attila) 2004-2017.

Believe it or not I'm now thinking the Mossberg835. I have several Remington guns so why not try something new and I like the looks of it.

I have two questions:

Does it shoot only 3.5 rounds or can you use 3" or 2-3/4

How would this gun work on waterfowl?

Plenty of guys hunt waterfowl with an 835, but most hard-core waterfowl guys eventually go over to a semi-automatic shotgun.

if a semi is something you like, look into the 935 it's the semi version of the 835

535 is the 835 without the overbored barrel

Well, thanks for your help. I think it will be the 835

I have a semi S&W but it only takes 2-3/4" rounds

835 is a great turkey gun. Try the 3" shells before you try the 3 1/2". Both patterned well for me but I don't think the extra pellets are worth the money and or the recoil. Lol.

I will do the 3" first. I am not a big fan of big rounds, large caliber and so on. The recoil in hunting situation is not a problem but it is painful when sighting it in. Last year turkey went down with a 2-3/4" and it worked fine.
