When I read this stuff, it's hard for me to remember what was on the previous page before I make it to the next page.  I'll only use them for reference when I want to know something.  It's a lot to absorb.

Ahhh, I remember those old USDA Soil Surveys and NJDEP Wetlands Maps - how bout them old USFWS NWI maps (junk).  Thank God for GeoWeb (when it works).

the third pic has those nwi maps. thats the first time I opened those flat drawers in a long time. the ol interweb is so much better. the only thing worse than those maps are the tideland claim maps that you must use to determine boundaries, It should be against the law for the state to lay claim based in those maps that look like a 5year old drew them

Thanks all for the info. The leaves on the plant looked like the traditional thistle we see all over NJ. They were deeply lobed and covered with spikes/thorns. I'm pretty sure it's Musk thistle based on that reference above.
