The funny thing is that I have a liner to build a pond in my yard and no time to build it. It's the old story of the cobbler's kid that has no shoes.

These ponds also make great watering holes around your stands if there isn't any water near by, I put one in at the end of winter on the edge of my small food plot. Deer have been using it

My firm builds both deep water ponds for trout as well as shallow water wetland ponds for wildlife such as ducks, frogs, turtles, etc.  Farmers can get Farm Bill funds to hire us, and the shallow water ponds especially are a favorite watering hole for deer.  We may be building one or tow for a member here in northern NJ once his funding and conservation plan is in place fully.  I built a small pond on our NY hunting property just for deer to water at using a backhoe attachment on my buddy's New Holland tractor.  If you can add a plastic tub like those shown where water runs even every now and then, you can definitely draw in more deer.

Shortfuse I see you used what looks kike pressure treated lumber. The chemicals used vary from Copper sulfate to Arsinic  Deadly to fish. If so when asap the lumber drys out Seal it. Just the rain drops splashing in is enough to harm the fish. Good luck nice addition to your yard. enjoy. Bill

Thanks Buck probably going to stain it redwood the older deck needs a fresh coat too.

Koi are nearly bullet proof, so they should do better than most other fish species even with some of the nasty stuff from the wood getting in.  But I doubt it will.  They also stopped using arsenic in treated lumber from what I recall.
