That's next door to me  Unfortunately it didn't end well for the bear. I wish I could have it, I am almost out of bear meat :happywave:

A bear found in a tree in Union Beach had to be put down, according to a post on the police department's Facebook page.

"It is with sincere regret that we announce the animal had to be put down. Subsequent to assessing the situation with several variables involved, the decision was made to prevent an even more grave situation from occurring. New Jersey State Fish and Game will secure and remove the animal. This is not the ideal outcome for us, however, as we know - human life takes precedent over animal life. Public safety will always be our number one priority. We appreciate your understanding," the post states.

Residents received a phone alert late Saturday night telling them that police had located a bear in the 600 block of Edmunds Avenue.

The bear, which was estimated to be about 400 pounds, was in a tree with police "now handling the situation," according to the 10 p.m. call.

The wildlife encounter follows reports of bear sightings in Middletown on Thursday and Friday

That's one sport, if you want to call it a sport, I never watched, not even one time. However to each its own, the world is interesting because we all like something different,

Why did they have to kill it?  Up here in NW Jersey, no one would have given it a second look.  But its OK for us to tolerate all the issues they cause ..................Hope these liberal idiots give the bear hunt a second thought when the bears start to extend their range east and south.  Kinda makes me look forward to a stoppage once Murphy buys the governorship so I be amused by the mayhem that's sure to follow after a year or two.  Yea, I never saw the allure about watching a bunch of cars driving around a circle.  I'm sure there is some sort of strategy - but nowhere near the amount required to navigate Route 80 at rush hour .................

Well Union Beach is house next to the house separated by few feet so I can see how the cops did not want to take a chance of this thing running into someone, even accidently. I don't have a problem with a bear being killed in this type of situation.

That's funny:-)

They did not just start to come East or South. Not too long ago they came east across the Delaware River from PA. and have been increasing ever since. They did not come for our Jersey Shore but for our Buffet of food sources. -Easy pickings of Garbage dumps Trash Cans. Best of all The Banquet left along our Roads and Highways being all The Road Kill ( deer ) that is no longer picked up.  Add that with the lack of Conservation & Controls not to leave out Tree Huggers. The Teddy Bear Syndrom

They are Healthy growing migrating and have now reached the Atlantic Ocean.

Did anything happen with the NJDFAG wanting to relocate some to South Jersey their Map where they are is almost covering all of NJ but for the big Cities at least they have better sense?   most places they can be tolerated just not in a heavily populated Township Like Union Beach.

Yea, but for every one you have in your back yard, I have 10.  If it wasn't for the hunt, you'd have seen a much larger and more rapid increase.  And I think that is gonna be a hoot when hypocrite Phil ends the hunt based on emotion and not science .................
