The shad were about as thick as they get just North of water gap tonight. Good water clarity, river about 1.5' high. Buck154 and I started around 4:15 and were hooking up right away. Slightly more roe landed than bucks - up to about 5.5 lbs. Most every roe brought a large pod of shad to shore with them which was cool to see.  Hammer4reel showed up just past 5, and got to put his new 7.5' Fenwick to the test and I do believe he was very happy with it!  I can't tell you "numbers" landed but there was rarely a time when someone wasn't hooked up, and I counted at least 8 times all 3 of us were, probably more than that. Jay even made a cameo appearance around 6 or so and didn't have waders but saw us hooking up and went and put on his hip boots and I gave him a rod ready to go and he started hooking up and got his first few shad with several hooked up before he left early.   I left them biting good just past 8pm I simply had enough and was actually getting cold feet and hands,  and Dan and John hooked up a doubleheader as I was walking away.It was 50 degrees air temp when I left, water was 53.   A very peaceful enjoyable night on the big "D" to say the least.

it was also a rather bizarre affair when Dan had a rather large beaver swimming upstream right toward him - while my lab watched incredulously. I never saw a guy that could attract beaver quite like that before. However once the beaver got close enough it realized the error of it's ways...  The reason Dan is not smiling while holding a fish in the picture above, I can only surmise was because that beaver was so close he could nearly taste it, and then it simply swam away leaving him with nothing but fishy smelling hands.

Beautiful night tonight. Was a good time again. Lot of shad brought to hand tonight by all of us. Lot of big roe shad with 2-10 bucks following them in too.

Jay cool pictures of the dogs and glad you made it down there.

That look on Dan's face, holding that shad, right after the beaver swam away is priceless... "I nearly had a nice beaver, instead I'm left holding this stinky shad..."

Got intel from a buddy of mine hitting that same spot at very first light this morning until 8pm, he only landed 4 out of 7, and he headed 10 miles north to try and get back on that same body of fish.  If the fish were there this morning and biting, he would have had 30 or more in that time, he is one of the best shad fisherman I know (although may have to start putting these two members in that category   ).  So it just goes to show you how fickle and frustrating it can be.
