There is only one Alaska, but what a huge, beautiful, rugged, wild one it is! Great pictures!

Saw lots of moose. The cows were getting ready to calve when I was there . Solitary cows would move off to dense alder thickets on mountainsides for a couple of days before giving birth. The grizzlies would hunt these cows out and hang around until the calf is born. and grab the calf. We found several cows like this and kept would keep checking back on them. On the last day of my hunt, we found a nice grizz shadowing a cow on a gravel bar in the Koyukuk River. The wind was wrong but we went for it and wound up just a little behind him when he chased the cow across a deep braid of the river.

There's a grizz in the bowl at the top of this mountain. We went up the right side. It took about an hour to get up there and when we peaked over the ridge he was already gone. The bears move amazing fast even when they seem to be plodding along digging in the rocks.

I can see the bear in this picture. In the green grassy area on the left side of the bowl. If you put a dot right in the center of the green and move slightly to the right. That brown spot is a decent boar. You'll have to take my word for it.

I was standing in the spot where we first spotted the bear digging when I took this picture.

Sitting back glassing. Right after I took this picture I spotted a blond bear heading right to left in the clearing across the river. He was heading for that ice flow to the left of my bow.

The bear headed into the trees and went down towards the river. We got out on a gravel bar but couldn't cross near where he was. We watched for a while and he turned and headed back up the mountain. We backed up to the river bank and glassed him as he made his way up finally turning and laying down on a hummock, watching his back trail. We went downriver a ways. Put on hip boots and crossed, circled up above his position and came down from the top and he was gone.

You truly are the real Woodsman especially on a hunt like that.

Great pics, excellent narration of them. Truly an amazing trip of a lifetime for you. Well done.

Very nice area to hunt.  My first big game hunt was near just north of Anaktuvak Pass, AK back in 1993 for Caribou.  I have been luck to hunt in many areas of the state.  My Grizz was taken with a rifle.

great pics and stories, Woodsman.  I enjoyed following along.  Sounds like one hell of an adventure, with or without a bear to bring home.

This sow stepped out of the alders and started digging pea vine. This is a NICE bear! I stated moving down the bank and out popped the two cubs. She had me fooled.
