Deer Shoulder Mount Plaster Wall

What would you use to hang a whitetail shoulder mount in plaster walls if: a)You hit a stud and b)you don't hit a stud. Thanks.

I would prefer to hit a stud.  If you don't and you are stuck I would explore using a metal french cleat with at least 2-3 butterfly anchor points.

There are numerous anchors for plaster on the market .. like mentioned..use 1. Any of them will work (I'd use the strongest available, because although a mount is probably under 50lbs, it has a lot of leverage due to it sticking off the wall 2ft or so...

very good point. This leverage is called a moment. If the head alone weighs 20lb and its 2 feel away form the wall it pulls on the wall with a double force of 40lb, 3 feet an you are talking 60lb and so on.

Sheetrock augers .. Easy as 1 2 3

If your referring to Sheetrock anchors, or zip its as they are called, those won't work for a plaster wall. However, there is a toggle bolt type zip it that might work, but your best and easiest option is to go buy anchors specifically for plaster/lathe walls or to hit a stud Edited by DeplorableDan

I've done this with TVs and other things that I've wanted to prevent from falling from the walls.

Find a nice piece of wood about the size of the mount lager.  Secure that to the wall by screwing it into the studs.  If the piece of wood is large enough, it might cross two studs.  You screw the wood to the studs and then attach the mount to the wood.  That way the entire thing is attached with screws to wood.  It'll never move.
