Mailbox post over kill

Last week some one wasn't paying attention and drifted to the side of the road and hit our mailbox with their mirror. Destroying our nice mailbox along with ruling the mirror off the truck. My wife was home when it happened and said the person never even stopped. Lucky for them they only hit the mirror on the box and not hit the post. It would have been a different story.

My dad made the post 30 years ago from giant chain links all welded. There was 4 foot in the ground and 2 plus foot above. It has to weigh over 200 lbs. I dug it up to move it back a little to save our box if it happens again. My dad made it to last and is definitely overkill. My back still hurts

I put up cheap plastic ones because if you have goodones the kids play baseball with them at night

We have had them and regular Aluminum one's. When we have heavy snow and they plow the street the heavy slush has crushed a few and the township has replaced them when we call but who wants to keep calling. The wife found this nice heavy one made by the Amish and matches the house so she had to have it. Looks great till the guy hit it and blew it apart. She ordered a new one and it is on now.
