I've been scouting a couple public spots that I'll be hunting this year. I know where there's a couple good flocks and one big boss Tom, have them patterned pretty well and know where they mostly roost. I took a ride around one of the properties to see if they were in the fields tonight, and of course there were three different cars with Pennsylvania license plates. Of course I recognized one of them  that screwed me up twice last year with his crow call while I was working birds. I wish NJ would make the first week for residents only, at least I would have my sanity of not having to deal with the PA jackasses for a week. It's worst during deer season, brown it's down, they literally are responsible for destroying the deer herd on these properties.

I went to a wma last weekend, seen a hen cross the road into the spot as I was parking. I walked a few hundred yards in down a field and kicked a solo bird off a roost (it was almost dark) I'll set up Monday on that roost spot and hope for the best.

They are never there when I have a gun in hand so I don't even get my hopes up anymore...I've been chasing turkeys for years and never connected...

I've got birds picked out but I won't be hunting them, they roost along the ridge right behind the house.  Scouting them is rough, I sit on the back porch with a cup of coffee and listen to them gobbling away.

Anything can change come Monday. Good luck, though.

I've been scouting but I won't know till Sunday night if I have one located for the morning hunt. If not I have a few areas to run and gun to find one. So we will see what happens.

Son and I just took a ride up to our two spots and saw 2 nice gobblers at the first and 1 at the second.  Birds were out in the fields at 1200.  All were following lone hens around.  So...I guess those are our targets.  I just told him I don't know if it is lucky to see them like that the day before! lol

I never count my turkeys before they're cooked. Just when you think you have them pretty much figured out, they can make you look like a fool. Plus this year I barely spent any time scouting.

Joe remember to make sure you're not within 300' of that bait while hunting that long beard. Honestly you should remove it so no one else gets pinched unknowingly.

If they get pinched they get pinched for trasspassing.....I don't hunt over it, but I will be within a few hundred yards

As long as it's more than 300' from the public land. I just thought it looked really similar to the top of the hill where we found your deer. Then again all those woods look the damn same. lol

Good luck!
