Python Season Open

Recommended Posts

If you're looking for an opportunity to hunt, maybe you can squeeze a python adventure in! They are decimating the native wildlife including mammals up to deer. They are an ecological disaster that need to be controlled.

Actually hunting of Pythons in Everglades is very ineffective. The place is simply inaccessible and the environment is just perfect for this constrictor to hide and thrive. Most are caught when they cross the only road in everglades. Few years back they had a big hunt, all invited. I don’t remember the numbers now but they had hundreds of people participating in the hunt for two weeks and they only killed a few snakes.

yet another example of what happens to nature when people interfere. We have some other examples in North America, for example Starlings and House Sparrows.

Don't forget pigeons and Norway rats.

Little known fact that those birds were introduced by one person who was a huge Shakespeare fan and who wanted all the birds mentioned in his writings here in the new American colonies.  We have had some minor luck with certain foreign invasives such as snakehead fishing tournaments where on the last day they have a huge fish fry of the catch.  They are now also doing that with invasive lion fish on our coral reefs with spearfishing tournaments.  But those damned pythons are proving to be near impossible to kill off as mentioned earlier.

If you start a business where kids can take their xBoxes or PS4s and pilot drones into the Everglades with the objective of taking out these snakes, you'd eradicate the species in about three months.

Sad but very true!

I say thing with pride that I was never really into video games that much growing up I would rather always be outside and haven't played one now in 5 years at least
